Short throw on a 930?

Short throw on a 930?
I hate the play & long reach of my shifter. Has anyone put in a short throw on a 930? A mechanic friend told me this could be a problem for a 930 ie cause mechanical failure. Any comments?
If not a problem, how much would one cost & where could I purchase a kit?

Most short shifters for the 930 are crap.
Your shifter probably is just not set up right. The long shifter is the best leveraged shifter if it is set up correct.
If you really want a short shift kit, the Porsche factory short kit was recommended by my mechanic as the only way to go, however everyone at this site seems to like the Wevo kit. So that would be fine.
Other than that, you are taking a chance. I have heard to avoid the weltmeister kit. The Hargett kit is still a brand new design, and clearly a race kit. It may be great for a track car, but you have to think the verdict is still out on that.

If you do a search, I bet a lot of people have installed shifters with help from this website.
And, yeah, the factory kit will do you right as long as it is 'Genuine Porsche' and not some imitation. Make sure it is not an 'OEM style' part, or made by the original manufacturer as an aftermarket item, accept no substitutes for the real genuine Porsche part.

I installed the Weltmeister kit about 3 years ago. Took about an hour - no issues. Not much to it really... just a new lever and a few bushings. Don't know why it would be considered a crappy kit? The lever is beefier than the stock unit.

I installed the Weltmeister kit several years as well. It was easy and work, but I prefer the Hargett shift as the throw is shorter and the shifter is placed up and further back. For me, this was critical. As far as it being new and untested, I'ved used it for years, as has Brian Keith Smith, both on and off the track.
