Man this whole ivestment thing vs. driving lowers the value is always a bummer.

What I find really funny are the number of supossedly low mileage 930s out there to debate over especially when you consider several points.

-The 930 was supposed to be the pinnicle of Porsche superiority.. & you paid big bucks at that point in time to get in one

-Most have passed through the hands of several owners and numerous valets at this point

-Like all early 911 based models, its got one of the easiest speedometers to remove, tamper with and/or replace in nautomotive history

-Being the hot property that they were/are.. you can't help but take it out and drive it..and m,any have been driven, and yes cared for, with they're disconnected speedos!

-The last version of the 930 is now almost 20yrs old... why are there sooooooo many with low miles?

My car is #12 of the 1978 Production run, heavily modded (with more to come) with 67k miles on the clock.. low mileage for a 78 I guess.. if you say so. What's it worth..beats me! What will you pay?

Many wonderful cars have passed through my hands, did I buy with being an investment in mind..no (although I may have told the wife that) but I purchased because it either stirred my soul or gave me a woody or both! I may have made money on the sale based on the timing, may have broke even or maybe even lost a couple of bucks... nobody wants to over pay, but keep in mind.. in the grand scheme of things this stuff is just expensive sheet metal!

I agree with onboost, on the whole investment vs. driving thing. My 92 had 34,000 miles on it when I bought it December (verifyable milege). It now has 38,xxx, and I drive it as much as I can, even on my 62 mile each way commute. I am glad the previous owners saved all the miles for me.

For me it would be exactly like getting the blue ***** to have a car as awsome as the 930's and 964T's are just sitting in the garage hoping it will appreciate. If you want to make money, invest it, but not in a car. Buy a car to drive and enjoy, you only live once, and I'd rather feel the boost and enjoy driving it, than worry about losing money every mile I put on it.

Hell, I went and met another 911 guy over lunch to buy a couple of Porsche related t-shirts from him that he designed, and he had never driven a turbo, so I handed him the keys and off we went. These cars are meant to be driven, and mine is running so much better now that it gets taken out at least a couple of times a week.

I don't know how many 89's were made, but they do command a premium because of the 5 speed. For me, the 964T was a perfect choice due to a little better creature comforts (see my comment about my commute). Unfortunately there just don't seem to be lots of 964t's for sale, so my search took quite a long time.

Thanks Daly,

I do plan on driving it and keep it in concours condition. yeah I also do not understand how somebody can have an awesome car and not drive it. My previous 87 930 had 40,000 when I bought it and in I put 8,000 miles a year on it. The key thing is get the best car you can afford because there will always be issues later.
