Default Shock valving

I'm looking for some advice on custom shock valving for my 2650 lb, 78 930 track car. It has the yellow Bilstein sport shocks (or are they HDs?) and 23/31 hollow T-bars. I'm going to add 200 lb helper springs (unless I'm strongly advised otherwise) with the Rebel Racing coilover conversion parts. Someday, I may go to a deeper level with a cage, full coilovers, JRZs or Motons, ERP suspension and the like, but for now this will have to do. But with the stiffer springing, I suspect that the valving of my stock shocks won't be correct. Bilstein USA will revalve (and rebuild) the shocks for, I think $65 each. Anyone have any shock valving numbers that they could recommend for my setup?

Just in case nobody replies I think that Bilstein will advise you correctly.

Actually, I called Bilstein, and they won't advise me. Their distributors might, but Bilstein USA won't. They'll be glad to valve it any way I want, but I need to supply them with the numbers.

Fast 82,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I suppose I could just send them to Smart Racing or some other business that specializes in this, but I was hoping to get some raw valving numbers from individuals who have experience with this so I could have more involvement in the process.

I had Bilstein do mine. I just gave them the car specs, what type of driving I'd be doing and they valved them accordingly.

David,

Did you send to Bilstein USA, in California? Anyone in particular that you dealt with? Do you know what the valving specs were that they set you up with?

They specifically told me that they wouldn't suggest any specs, and that I had to determine them for myself.

I would recommend talking to Steve at Rennsportsystems.com, personally.

He does some custom revalving of Bilsteins RSRs, so I think he could probably do yours.

But he also will take the time to talk to you about your entire project, and he sells all kinds of suspension parts.

In other words, he is a good guy and will help you in any way he can.

Kevin Roush - GAS Motorsports (909)985-2909 has done many great setups.
Otherwise, Jack French is the guru at Bilstein Racing in Poway, CA. 858-386-5900

Lots of opinions out there and there are a lot of variables to consider, which is why it's good to find someone who will take the time to understand your specific setup and expectations. I know for myself personally I run higher rebound on my all torsion bar race car than most recommend, but it's worked for me.
