Default Headlamp conversion for 930

Greetings! I am selling my 928 and looking to buy an '86-'89 930. I have noticed that the '86 model's headlamps have more of an "upright" appearance with a thick trim ring while the '87-'89 have the "laid back" look.
If I buy an '86, is there a simple conversion to get the headlamp appearance of the '87-'89?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Simple answer is yes, your best bet is to convert the "sugar scoops" on your car now to H4s which will be a huge aesthetic improvement and provide superior lighting.

The 87's and up had H5 head lights and you'll need an adapter like the one from Peilcan. Other than that, it's a piece of cake and really updates the car. Maek sure you get the paintable ring trim type vs. the chrome rings though.

Is it possible to purchase just the H5 lamp housing, i.e. lamp and wires/connections/bulbs, without the paintable ring (mine is fine) and fit this to replace my H4s? I have an '86 and the H4s are IMO useless, however, could this be due another factor, age, backing foil, bulbs..........?
Thanks
Richard

I'm confused. Are you all saying that the H4 is better than the H5 or the H5 is better than the H4? I have an '87 930 and I believe the lights are stock (H5?). I do not like these lights, the pattern is terrible and they do not produce enough light for spirited night driving. I even installed high wattage bulbs and they are only mariginably better.

Here's another point to consider. The H4's can easily be updated to Xenon bulbs (hi and low beam). Last I checked (for my 964) the H5's were a PITA to convert (to hi/lo xenon). My 82 Euro has the smaller trim rings, not sure why.. maybe it has been converted along the way? Have to check what lights are in there.

I have an '87 with H5's and they are terrible. I bought a set of H4's and will install them when I get my car back from the painter. I will gladly sell you my H5"s for a good price if you just want that certain look.

I changed my globes for some Phillips 6500k Blue and what a difference on both high and low beam. I can actually now drive faster than I can see, lol.

The H4 look is better IMO. However, I do like to see where I'm going. If it's possible to upgrade the H4s to Xenon (thanks Gary R.) then I'll forget the H5 idea, I merely thought they might improve the beam. Pelican here I come.
