Default Voltage Regulator & Electrical Issues

1) Last time my battery was dying and the tach was fluctuating.

Where is the Voltage regulator located? Does any of this make sense?

Thanks....

In the engine compartment (drivers side), right next to your CDI. What's the voltage to the battery at 2000 rpm? Should be 12v-14v +/-

Depends on the year of 930. The early ones had the regulator located in the engine compartment as slivan indicated. But the newer cars, from '77, I believe, had the regulator built behind the alternator itself.

I thought the 78 and on had an internal voltage regulator built into the alternator but I'm not positive Werk-I could be right at 77.

Might be another issue if its burning up an alternator a year. Or, you just got unlucky in the draw off the shelf. Pretty unusual though, electronics these days either last forever or fry right out of the box. Is it a Bosch unit? I'd take it to a good auto electrical shop and let them check out the system and test the alternator. If its bad they probably can rebuild it for you. I'd check every ground and main harness carefully. Something must be drawing enough current to make the alternator continuously charge to fry the VR electrics. Good luck.
