I don't want to get into a cat fight over this subject. It's obvious that the G50 is a more advanced tranny than the 4 spd but we are talking about retro fitting it into a $25,000 to $35,000 car which would represent about one third of the cars value. It won't add $2,000 to the resale because it is now heavily modified and unless it has many more mods as well as the new tranny, it won't bring a premium over a 930 with a 4 spd trans/engine rebuild but still original. It would make a lot more sense to buy a 964 turbo even with a $15,000 premium over the 930 with a non-original
5spd because it would still be original and have better qualities than a moded 930. Hey, if I had a free G-50 laying around my shop and the expertise to install it my self I would do it. But to buy a short case G-50 with the clutch parts and PAY the labor is not real practicle. Nathan is a lucky bastard because he got a 5 spd and didn't have tp pay big bucks to get it. I'm afraid that will be the fate of any seller who puts in a 5 spd and then sells his car.

I think that goes for EFI, larger turbos and basically any other upgrades- don't expect to get a premium for them when you sell, but they sure make the driving more enjoyable.

The car and upgrades are worth whatever someone pays for it/them. If you find the right buyer that HAS to have a G50 equipped 930, then you never know what price you'll get.

I was looking for a 5speed turbo. I would have bought a 964t that was in my budget or a '89 G50/50 car. I however came across my modded 1981 at a reasonable price so I am indeed a lucky bastard

A 930 with a G50, as opposed to a G50/50, has pretty tight gearing as it is. So long as the main shaft can handle whatever power you're putting to it, a G/50 conversion is a nice add.

It's also way too spendy, in my opinion. And I did one.

With my 930 box, first was so bloody long I had to rev the crap out of it to stay in boost on the 1-2 shift. And my local track doesn't really have a first gear turn. I actually could have lengthened my gear and that way maybe added another useful gear at the track, but that would have made street driving silly. I'm interested by the comments of some who have the 930 box that first gear is just to get the car rolling. If you really use it that way, you aren't in boost or really even close on the 1-2 shift. Now, in a G50 set-up, first gear is exactly that--get it rolling and on boost fast, then drop into second as the boost builds, etc. You can be on boost almost all the time.

Is it preferable to a 930 box for steet and track? Yes. Is it worth the money for a conversion? Nope, not unless you have a wad o' cash lying around looking for some place to land. In my case, my box was toast, so the number to look at was the delta betwen a 930 box and a G50. That made the case a closer call, and my obsessive personality did the rest.

Does reverse make my 4 speed a 5 speed? LOL

Having never driven a 5 speed, I can't complain about my 4 speed. It seems to work well on the street and the track, although I do notice a difference depending on what diameter tire I use. With a smaller diameter tire, I seem to either winding it out or ******* it sometimes in certain places.
