930 Turbo Purchase - offer made
Hello to the 930 crowd,
I put an offer in last night to purchase my first Porsche and it is a 1988 930 Turbo with 83,000 miles. Been dreaming about these cars for a long time...From my inspection yesterday, it appears to be a completely stock car. It has had some panels re-painted for stone chips and the paint quality looks like it was done properly. The interior is in really good condition.
I will be getting a Porsche shop to do a complete PPI on the car this coming week.
What are some things that I should be checking closely to ensure I don't end up with a huge repair bill just after buying the car? Anything mileage specific for the turbo? What are good leak down percentages for the turbo motor? With your information I can ask the right questions of the potential shops for the PPI to determine if they have experience with the 930.
Thanks!

Congrats on your 930! I'm no expert and am still learning about the Porsche world, so a few of the seasoned vets please correct me if I'm wrong but here are few answers to your questions:
PPI- As far as avoiding a huge repair bill, you are doing the right thing with regard to getting the PPI. If possible, I would skim through the PPI chapters in Pete Zimmermann's "The Used 911 Story". Also, you may want to search the forum because Pete has a few excerpts tacked up regarding the PPI. Before settling on a shop to perform your PPI, I would ask the shop specifically what there PPI entails.
Leak Down-The leak down test acceptable range is in the range of 3% to 6%.
You noted a few panels were repainted due to stone chips. I would check the the panel ailignment and look for uniformity with the panel gaps. You may want to crawl around and double check that the p.o. is not trying to hide rust or an accident (PPI should review these items during their inspection).
