However, I dare you to show me another make of vehicle, that old, that still performs like the 930 does, and still looks as good with really a minor set of maintenence issues. The 965 was another in Porsche's long-line of "evolutionary", not "revolutionary" improvements to an already great concept.

Even my wife, who never rides in it and hates cars, defended it when one of her girl friends was talking about how she knows a guy that has the worst luck with his '80s SC that he does some club events with:
Her: "Oh GAWD he's always fixing this or that and it NEVAR runs for him when he gets it to the track...BLAH, BLAH, WAH, WAH, YADA YADA...
My wife: "Realy? Jeff's car has really been pretty good, I think he'd drive it any where...
Me: "YUP"
Having said that, the 965 was out of my price range. There is no arguing that the tranny, suspenssion, turbo, I/C, A/C (maybe) is improved. Keep in mind that most of the 930 cars you find for sale have already had a better turbo and/or I/C or some other upgrade performed. The styling is for you to decide. I like my old girl...

Don't forget planning ahead!, Surely you can't leave well-enough alone, keep in mind the modifications you plan on making to either model as both are well suited to becoming a track monster or daily driver with a well thought out plan of attack. What do you plan on doing with the car in it's ideal state?

I have both, they are both a drivers car, however, the 930 is more raw and rustic. If you are going to drive it alot go with the 965, it has a few more luxury comforts. If you want ***** to the wall though go with the 930.

I too have both a 87 911 turbo and a 92 965. Obviously the biggest change is the G50 (other than an 89 911 turbo) which gives the 965 a much more civilized driving experience. Plus my 1987 new was $57,000 and the 1992 was $102,000. So in five short years the price almost doubled. The level of refinement of the 965 (in a good way) is far superior. If you can afford to get a nice 965, do so. Unless you can get both

Turning it into a high horsepower daily driver with very little track time.

I have always admired the way the 930 looks, stance, and general Bad *** deal. Everybody Hot Rods them and they are perfect Hot Rods. Maintenance is an issue at first but when it is right --it will trundle around town with no problem and when you light it up----it just makes sense somehow. Either one is a good choice though.

I got a today from a guy in an early 1970s Dodge Charger that was pretty well hot-rodded and restored. His window was down and I decided to let the Zork tube sing a little bit for him! I think he was shocked at how fast things started happening when I floored it! And then there's the whoooshing sound that the waste gate makes! These cars are like no other!
