A few pics from the HSR races at VIR this weekend
I took my nine year old son, Dean, to his first race this weekend. I'll begin by saying that this was the nicest track I've ever been to! Beautiful surroundings, great facilities, and clean amenities. The people - car owners and track workers - were so friendly. Having been to Sebring and Daytona too many times to count, I can honestly say that this was far more positive an experience...WE'LL BE BACK!
Other than this uumm, eerr, aahh, uuhh turquoise colored thing, we were the only turbo powered P-car car at the track (that I saw):

Very cool! That must have been cool for himto to sit in them.
I wasn't sure how close you were going to be able to get to the cars when we talked, but you've answered that. DID you find some good places to watch the races?

There was a very open feel about the track and the car owners. Most everyone was very approachable. Especially the early 911 and 914-6 car owners. When they'd see me taking pictures of their cars, they'd ask if Dean would like to have a seat inside. He was really awe-stricken by the whole thing. He just couldn't believe the 962C. He just some how knew that he was looking at a very special car.
I really enjoyed the "grass-roots" feel to this sort of racing. I mean these guys are serious and are all ponying up some big $$$$ to persue this hobby, but there was a certain lack of arrogance present at the track.

About the 962C...it was being driven V-E-R-Y S----L----O----W!!!! I'm not sure if it was having problems, or if the owner/driver was unfamilar with it, or if he just didn't want to crack it up, but he was soon being lapped by a Riley-Scott open cockpit prototype. At one point the 962 was negotiating some corners (at a very slow rate) and he just spun and went off-road.
Back in the pits I asked one of the crew members why the car wasn't being driven to its potential and the guy pointed a Windex bottle at me and threatend to spray me! I just told him that someone had to ask the question. He laughed...he knew what I was getting at!
