Default For you DP lovers...

If you have seen this my apologies, but I just stumbled across this auction on eBay, a DP formerly owned by Pete Rose. A bunch of good pics:

I always loved the DP's and I dreamed of having one when I was in HS back in the 80's. They seem a little over the top today but I'm not saying I don't still want one.

After reading the well written ad...I would say two things:
1) The 500hp build sheet is a S-T-R-E-T-C-H!!

2) He says the car does not leak oil....but...the underneath looks very damp and wet with oil....lookey here:

3) I am surprised it still has the stock manifold and even has emissions as well!

But I think this picture makes it look badasss!

Nice too:

Darth Vader"

It needs different wheels too to improve the look the 15" BBS are a little too old skool.

It is definitely over the top and exaggerated looking.

My car has the same Italvolanti steering wheel that is shown sitting in the trunk, only mine is black. I actively searched for it as I like the style and feel and Porsche used to put them in the Special Wishes Slantnoses. It's something you don't see every day.

Probably just a personal preference by one of the owners.

I found this to be interesting:

"At the heart of case was Rose's 1986 white Porsche 935 Turbo DP, with white-leather interior. It was designed for former auto racing star Mario Andretti. In a letter to O'Brien, Rose's attorney said Rose originally paid $120,000 for the car, and that O'Brien got a good deal on the car at $47,500, even though it was 8 years old.

O'Brien provided documents to the Enquirer showing Rose paid $80,000 for the car."

Then:
"And the Porsche? It didn't sell at the auction, but a Panama City, Fla., chiropractor later bought it for $28,000. The chiropractor no longer has the car, O'Brien said."

John, My 79 DP came with the same black Italvolante and as I have posted before they are getting really hard to find. I do prefer the newer 930S wheel though.

Jeff Grant your DP was owned by Pete Rose too wasn't it?

Pete Rose was my hero in my younger days. I live in Cinci Red territory and saw him play with the Big Red Machine many times and collected his baseball cards.

I like where the spokes are compared to the newer 930S wheel. The size and thickness are also just right. I also like that it isn't seen as often.

In my search I came across a pristine three-bolt original and an original hub, very clean looking. I also came across a one brand new one, still in the box. It was a later version that uses a ribbed-looking Momo hub. Thats the one in the picture above, but with the older one's crested center pad. I'd like to get an enameled crest to have the option of less bling.
