Default Tech Help - Installing Cyl Head Temp Sensor - special tool needed?

Can anyone share the secret to replacing this sensor, while keeping the wire intact? And keeping sanity?

I'm replacing a bad cylinder head temperature sensor, on an 87 930.

Does anyone use a special tool to screw in the sensor, while maintaining the attached wire?

There's not quite enough room for a box, open, or hydraulic line wrench. I used a deep 14mm socket to remove the old one, after cutting the old wire.

I'm about ready to make my own 14 mm deep socket - and grind out a slot up the side of the socket for the wire to stick out.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Glenn

Glenn, I think your best bet is to sacrafice a socket.

Thanks Mike.

I think your Freightliner beats us all with its torque.

Glenn - I agree with Mike. You will end making a socket very similar to the ones you use to remove a Oxygen sensor.

Glenn,

You could also go to your local Autozone, Kragen, etc and pick up a cheap flare nut wench. Then just grind the sides down to fit.

Mike, Yasin, and Win -

Thanks for the help!

Mine isn't as pretty, but it did the trick.

Have a great weekend! This made mine.
