IX IV IV,
If I were you, I'd plan to pull the engine as part of your process. I think it's a very valuable exercise. It forces you to acquire the knowledge and resources you need to maximize your fun with the car. You can easily do it yourself (with another person or two to help during the critical stages). Budget $300 to get a good engine stand and 911 engine holding fixture. That will allow you to look it over carefully, clean everything up, adjust the valves, inspect the clutch, and deal with any of the contingencies as they unfold (and there will most likely be things you'll discover as you go through it). If you keep this car, or get another, you'll be glad you got the engine stand and holder, and that you got "intimate" with your engine this way; it just helps you understand how it's put together and makes you more comfortable fixing other problems in the future. Also, if you're changing the exhaust, be extra careful not to break off any exhaust studs -- take your time, and use heat if necessary to avoid the headache of a broken stud. Have fun!

I have one more suggestion for you: How much do you really know about this engine? Is it really in top shape? Leak down numbers? Compression? Oil leakage? In other words, THE MOST important thing before spending any of your $10K budget is making sure you have a solid foundation...PERIOD! If all is good, let the mods begin. Make sense?

Stephen is sending me a Fabspeed dual because my single is having interference issues with the oil drip tank for whatever reason so I need to take the exhaust the other way.
If you are looking for a Fab, my single will be available soon. Perfect condition. Maybe 3,500 miles on it. I polished it up at least twice a month! They are $850-900 I think. If I could get $700 Id let it go, assuming my dual ends up curing my problem.
Let me know if you are interested.

I forgot to mention, if you go with a 965 intercooler you will have to remove your rear wiper and aircon pump/compressor, I think with the B&B ones you can keep the aircon, not sure how the two compare performance wise, I think the 965 one is a bit bigger and being OEM probably means it's more efficient?

Save $800 and make your own muffler from Magnaflow (every bit as good as fabspeed), then use that money to get a nice TIAL wastegate AND an EBC.
All the parts mentioned in this thread are proven to work together, so you need to set the bidget and stick to it. Personally, I think a Garrett BB turbo is overkill for a CIS car based on my experience. And good advice from Nathan regarding the airbox - leave it stock (my car produced over 400 rwhp with the stock unit).
One other thing to consider is to learn how to tune your WUR to get the most fueling possible for safety. No cost here, just learning curve.

Pics coming soon sandman...
Just to clarify, I have owned Porsches for over 20 years and have done a few driver ed's and club racing over the years, so not exactly a novice here, just cautious as this is my first 930. Currently own a 1999 996 Carrera, 1986 944 na and the 930. The 944 is my project racer, the 996 the reliable workhorse and the 930 shall be the fun road car.
Originally from England, I club raced 914's and 944's over there for over 6 years and in 2000-2002 attended many drivers ed events at VIR. Now I am in FL.
I am quite familiar with 914's and 944's but not so much with 911's, so getting to know the engine is on my list, but not for now, I want to enjoy the car for a bit first. The 930 is in excellent condition both mechanically and bodywork, so I just want to increase the power so as to make it more enjoyable.
I shall get the camera out tonight and post pics of everything soon.
Thanks to everyone for the advise.

The 965 type IC from Stephen Kaspar comes as a kit ready to fit. Hence the word "type". You would need to ask him if you would need to lose anything on the car to get it in. I have no AC or rear wiper. At the time of my IC purchase the Kokeln seemed to be the best bolt on so that is what I got from Stephen.
