Not sure about Porsche, but BMW requires airbags to be replaced every 15 years. Wonder if it ever happens?

I am apprehensive about entering the discussion since it is pretty well dominated by the 930 group, but...
the 964T offers (and the 930 does not offer):
(1) 5 speed (except '89 turbo)
(2) larger intercooler (finally!)
(3) spring/damper suspension (no torsion bars)
(4) adjustable spring perches (invaluable in adjusting ride hieght and corner balancing)
(5) progressive power steering (there's some of the extra weight)
(6) larger brakes (Turbos are famous for their awesome brakes)
(7) improved engine cooling (rear mounted blowers)
(8) one piece bumpers same color as body (no black bumperettes)
(9) upgraded heating and air conditioning (one **** adjustment)

I track my car regularly and it is a blast, but then I rode in a GT3 and I was amazed how well it handled - and I have big modifications in my suspension.

The point being, with each new model. Porsche made big improvements in the engine, brakes and suspension. You have to weigh the advatages of new cars versus the looks and feel of the older cars. In my view, the 964 Turbo is the pinnacle of Porsche styling - I have never encountered another in the same place as me. See what I mean?

Yasin, funny thing is, it seems we were both reacting to the same thing. YOu to the repetitive questions asked probably every few days and me to the same thing from the other side. I really hate to see newbies questions and enthusiasm blasted just because they ask the same questions that we did when we first discovered some new mod or model. Your second response was very helpful and thanks for the explanation. No worries.
BTW, the engine is a 68 Lamborghini Islero S, and yes, I am learning to synch those babies myself.

Lots of great responses and tons of info to sort through. I have a very clear new apprecation for the 930 and the madmen behind the wheel!!
I hope to get some seat time in all three models as suggested.
Are there any N. Calif guys on board here?

Jastx, I have seen a couple of very nice slant nose cars for sale. I remember seeing one on the street in S.F. back in the day and really liking the look. I see some claiming its too 80's but I think they still look great. Any more pics of your beauty?

JBH, appreciate the 964 perspective. I am sure if I ask the same question in that forum, the answers will be a bit different. It does seem that some of the newer owners miss their old(930 or 964) cars and the "feel" they have(had!).
I have a modern car with all the goodies so for me the rawness sounds exciting.

As is so often the case, the answer to a question just brings up more questions!!!
I need to find a Porsche gathering in N. Calif. so I can compare, listen and maybe drive some cars.

OK, signing off, but my next question is this:
at 6'3" which model is going to be the most comfortable?
My boxster has gt3 seats with the drivers seat bolted to the floor and it is wonderful, tons of headroom and getting in and out of the lowered car with a thin seat bolted to the ground, er floor, is an exercise in itself!

I'm 6'-3", 180lbs, 35" inseam and I fit perfect in my '87 930 with sunroof. I've never worn a helmet in it though, but I have plenty of head room. I've heard the non-sunroof models will get you even more head room, but those are rare. Sorry, I can't comment on the other models.

I am 6'4" and the 964T has same headroom as my previous 911 which meant if I wore a helmet, my head would be rubbing the roof. I ended up taking out my 12-way seats and put in some 964 cup seats - gaining at least 3" head room and saving about 120 pounds.

I am over 40k in mods on my 930 and if I had to do it again I would start with a 1994 3.6 add EFI or rather not. I will still go over the top it is hard to resist the boost, I am an addict now admission is a step towards recovery...

just wanted to say thank you. i am a newbie to the 911. i wanted a 930 in a bad way, but i bought a plain 84 carrera to learn more about the cars without hurting either one of us. i come from a long line of muscle cars, carb lambos, ferraris, and i have always had the 930 on my "MUST HAVE" list. i hope to accuire a nice early car later this year, but i have much to learn as a driver and student of the 911/930. as a "new guy" reading this thread, i wanted to say thank you for all the thoughts posted here. this is a great thread and has really given me a firm direction to go in.

Riverflyer : best wished on your 930 quest. i would love to read some comparision notes from you as you learn the car.

River - 68 Islero? Wow very impressive....I REALLY love those early V12 Lambos....any more pics of the car you can share? Now that all is cool, I am glad that this thread is turning out to be of use to many.

P.S: I spent many a day synchronizing DCOE Webers and it is a true test of patience....Dellortos and Mikuni PH44s were much better than the Webers for being less temperamental. If you are in a sunny warm climate year round, no worries...but if you have winter, hot and cold days, moist and dry days...they would affect those Webers.
