Polished up my intercooler today
I spent some time polishing my intercooler today. Also used a very small flat-head screw driver to straighten out all the bent fins. My wife thinks I've gone crazy.

what intercooler is that? It's HUGE and you've still got your aircon, is it better than a 965 intercooler? also have you been able to retain your rear wiper?
Looks good BTW

Wow that is a beuatiful IC - very beautiful....looks like a high $$$ piece. What other mods are running and what hp? Very cool that the AC is retained too.
I know a thing or two about polishing Intercoolers..wink!:
-or-
JBL - The rear wiper is removed on Coyote's car.

Those are real pretty welds. Nice use of existing bolts for the A/C bracket too.
BTW, how did you get the paint out of the cooling fins?

Thanks Rudy - Its all about planning and design...and a few hours on AutoCAD couple nights after work! It was important for me to use the existing mounting brackets for a clean install.

For those of you with this kind of hp or more, do you ever get used to it?
Thanks for the compliments, I knew you guys would appreciate the efforts. Yasin, I love the way the reflection of the red electrical lines in your engine bay are mirrored off the intercooler.
The car was bulit about two years ago by David at Prototech. It's a stage II with a stage III fuel system. I had him do some more work to it before I had it shipped here about 8 weeks ago. He replaced the turbo in it for me as well as a front oil cooler and spoiler. Took him forever but man.....is it fast and runs very cool.
I actually had him replace the 1.3 bar spring with a 1.0 bar spring for better engine longevity, and get this...it still cranks out 399 RWHP (I think this translated to about 480 at the crank). For those of you with this kind of hp or more, do you ever get used to it? With the 1.3 bar spring it was supposedly cranking out 550HP.
The rear wiper is long gone, other mods include the front oil cooler from Prototech, a very nice set-up with "Y" connectors off the front wheel well factory cooler and it's own return. I'll post a full list of the mods here once I dig out all the paperwork on it.
So far so good on this purchase, I have a track day at Audobon in Chicago in 2 weeks, should be fun.

So it's a Prototech intercooler? How much are they? I thought you only lost around 60bhp from the flywheel to the wheels although I don't know enough to say for sure. I know that mine is at 490bhp and I don't think I’ll ever get used to it, I only really have confidence to use the power in a straight line, i've not tracked the car so I don't know where the limits are with grip etc, I just love the way it accelerates, it just leap frogs traffic like they are parked up, enjoy!!

Dyno specifics
I'm not sure on the cost of the intercooler alone. A new-built stage II from them on a 3.2 runs about $28-30k. I bought the car running poorly and spent a littel on a new hybrid Garret turbo and the front oil cooler for track days. As I said above I had the 1.3 spring swapped out for the 1.0.
My understanding is that somewhere from 18%-20% powerteain loss is the formula, my specific dyno sheet shows the following;
399.87rwhp x 18% = 71.88 -- Engine HP = 471.25 hp @ 10PSI boost
444.85rwtq x 18% = 80.07 -- Engine Tq = 524.94 @ 10PSI boost
constant A/F mix at a hair over 12
Run was at 74 degrees, 17% humididty.

That makes sense, i didn't have a clue what the formula was. My last dyno sheet shows
489.3hp@ 6063rpm / 615Nm@ 4917rpm corrected
It doesn't say whether that's at the wheels or flywheel but i'm assuming it's at the flywheel so im looking at between 391.44 and 401.22bhp at the wheels with 1.0 bar, it seams we've got pretty much identical power, the temp was 59 degrees. What were your rpms? Sorry i know it's off topic but i'm just curious?

Looks great!
Excellent idea using the screwdriver to straighten the fins. I need to do that too.
I have one of Todd's/David's toys as well, and love the power. You'll love passing other cars on the track. Effortless!

Make sure it's a thin blade and a small width as well, I used the smallest one I could find for the fins. It worked great, but I found I had to do almost every fin once I did one in a row.
