Here are a couple of pics of the magnaflow I installed on mine. Its 18 in long (muffler only) with a 3" inlet and outlet. This is a 5x8 oval muffler. The outlet side is offset so the tip can be made level. This is a polished SS muffler and fits perfectly in the space taken by the stock system. I even use the stock strap to keep the muffler in place. The sound is perfect for me - no resonance, deep throaty sound at idle, very quiet at cruise and very loud at WOT. Contributing to the noise at WOT is the fact that its a straight pipe off the wastegate circuit.

What a coincendence, all I lack is the wiring and few other odds and ends. Unfortunately at my current pace that wiring will take a couple months.

For some reason the wiring on the Carrera side is a problem. I have the 14 pin diagram for the Garrera and the 930 Harness. I lost most power in the rear of the Carrera when I pulled the computer and the coil off, now I have to back trac to find the problem.

OK,
So looking @ pricing @ Jeg's see a Borla XR-1 3.5" in/out muffler with a 16" case @ $167.99 while the Magnaflow 3.5" in/out muffler with a 14" case is $111.99. Having not inspected these mufflers in person it's hard to decide which to buy. The Magnaflow looks better buit than the Borla in the pics but I'm not sure about the differences in quality. I want a good quality muffler that won't degrade with use... I also plan on ordering 3.5" mandrell bent stainless "U" or"J" tubing to fab the pipes.
Anyone know where I can get a K-27 flange from?
(Don, I would like to take you up on your old muffler to pirate its K-27 flange...
Also, where did you buy it from? I can't find any longer than 14")
(David, can you post pics of your Magnaflow ?)

Go on Magnaflow's website, look at the 5x8 oval universal muffler (3"inlet/outlet, offset), get the number of the size you want and order it from Grand Muffler on Cobb Parkway in Marietta. Let me know how you want to get this muffler quick as I leave for the Far East Sat for three weeks.

I've heard (on Pelican's website...I think the user is RarelyL8) that the K27 exhaust side flange is compatiable with an "old" Ford exhaust flange that most "good" muffler shops would have in stock. I don't know how true this is, or what model Ford it is, but that's what I read.

Out of curiosity, where does the B&B stack up to the mufflers being discussed here??? I bought my car with the B&B already in place, but if there are some better mufflers out there, then I might just step up...

I talked to our watercutter and he said he could make a flange out of 1/2" 304 stainless in about 10 minutes. If you can wait a couple days, I'll have him make you one. Unfortunately we're not allowed to sell parts we make so I'll have to give it to you.

Here's the drawing for the K27HF2 flange for anyone that wants to make they're own, I would imagine it's the same for all of them. I made the bore a little small since I machined it to a 14° taper to match the transition.

I could probably make a few of them since they're so easy to watercut, but I don't want it to get out of hand so I'll only make them for regular posters that are using them for their own car.

Wow!
Put me down for a flange!
If you do decide to make me one, can you spec the "hole" on mine @ 2.75"?
David...YOU ROCK!

Can someone post pics of their XR-1 muffler? I still want to give it a fair shake before I pick up the 3" in / out Magnaflow like Don has.

Don, thanks again for the input. I'm really looking forward to this muffler build.
Should I have Grand Muffler fab it up? I have heard of them, but have never used them in the past...

Ok, I pulled the trigger on a Magnaflow after inspecting a 4" in/out verision @ Grand Muffler on South Cobb Drive in Smyrna. Wow, that's the kind of muffler I'm looking for! It's nice and heavy, made entirely out of stainless steel (welds/internals), and has excellent build quality. The shop owner Todd is ordering a 3.5" center in/out per my request and his shop will complete the fabb/install this coming Tuesday. They mandrel bend their own stainless tubing and will tig weld the entire assembly. They are going to use the stock K-27 out flange and fab a transition pipe to go from 2.85" ID or so to 3.5 on the muffler, fab the exit pipe so it comes cleanly out on the passenger side, and they are going to fab a transition pipe for my wastegate dump to blend it from 2" or so to 3.5" and make the exit look exactly like the other side... I'm excited! No more horrible B&B resonance/rattle! No more clamped on tail pipe tips. No more cracking muffler welds. Todd will snap pics of the install and the build and I will post them here this coming week for everyone to enjoy. Kudos to Don for tipping me off about Grand Muffler!
