Actually, I bought my first Porsche, a 1966 911, when I was 17. I was a senior in high school. The car cost me 1500 hard-earned dollars I made by mowing lawns, delivering papers, and working in a car wash. I was definitely the only kid in high school with a Porsche. No one knew what it was -- or cared. Back then if you didn't have a Chevy Nova SS 396 with a big spitoon on the hood, you were nobody! But by the time I got to college -- and grad school -- I had throttled back to a $100 Beetle.

I wanted a 911 when I was 24, the problem was getting it insured at a sensible cost. In the UK when you are 25 or over insurance is much cheaper and I bought my '83 3.2 carrera sport coupe when I was 25 which I still now own 7 years later. Awesome car.
