Default Is there a better street tire for acceleration than MPSC

As many of you know I am running 755rwhp on my 89 930. I have been using Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires 295/30 yr18 in the rear. I am going to go to a larger rear tire 315/30 yr18 on 11 1/2" rims. Besides a drag radial would a standard street tire give me better traction than the MPSC ? I know the MPSC have to get hot to get there grip but this never happens on the street only on the track. I have been happy with the MPSC but not sure if they give as much traction as a street tire.

I'm going to give the Goodyear F1 tires a shot when I go to 315/35-17 tires, but I have no experience with them.

David, I had Goodyear F1s on a Camaro Z28 (OEM tire). They were sticky in the dry, spooky in the wet and lasted 16,000 miles (I did no burnouts or drag racing, just hard braking and cornering). I then tried BF Goodrich TAs (not as good in the dry, better in the wet but still inconsistent) which lasted about 24,000 miles. I then went to Yokohamas. Darn good tire. Consistent with good grip in wet or dry and lasted 32,000 miles. That was where I stopped experimenting with tires and stayed with the Yokes through two more sets. Now on my 930 I'm running Kuhmo Ectsas. They've been great, but only 2k miles on them so far. Good luck.

how much road noise is there with these tires? The MPSC are quiet.

I have the same rear tires on a second set of rims for my C2 Turbo. For street tires, they're down right dangerous. For example, coming up on boost I can easily spin the wheels in second gear. For my street tires, I run 275/17's w/ S02's (which I can't come close to spining the tires when cold).

The MPSC's have three heat cycles in them w/ penty of tread left. I was very surprised how slippery they are (until they warm up).

I've tried Yoko ES100's on other cars and I wasn't impressed with the turn in but they stuck OK. I've got S03's on the 930 now, but after my engine mods are done I don't think the 255-17 rears will be able to handle the power and they're not available in really wide sizes. I'm not concerned with mileage since as little as I drive the 930 they will probably be hard before they wear out. I don't drive in the rain much so I'm planning to go with 255 front and 315-17 rear F1's.

I have ran all types of tires. You can forget trying to run a street tire with what you have. I have BFG drag radials on my Porsche. It comes down to what you want the tire to do.....

Eric, how are the drag radials for normal street driving (if that is possible), highway and aggressive ramp driving. By the way you have a killer engine, better look into the Tilton 3 plate carbon, carbon clutch to hold that power.

They do fine for regular driving. I am the kind of guy who runs slicks on the street so you just have to get comfortable with what you use lol. Not something you want to go killing the corners with, but for the straights there is a huge difference. I have a custom spec clutch I am going to use at first and if that does not hold the power I will get a nascar takeoff tilton and adapt it over to the porshe

I don't know if their available in your specified size, but I put nittos on my bimmer and they grip 10x better then the dunflop sport 9000's did.much quieter too.

All of them are a little "whiney" at speed. Function of the big blocks and wide sipes I think. The Kuhmos are really pretty good so far and are a little quieter. Last night it was pouring on the ride home from work and they had good grip in the wet too.

nittos are a drag radial, but do not hook as good as a bfg drag radial. Mickey Thompson has the best drag radial out, but not sure if they have the larer size such as 18's yet

I have decided to go with the MPSC. I live in Florida so the roads are usually hot. My 295/30 18 tires worked fairly well so the 315/30 18 should work better. I also want to do track events so I can leave these on and not have two sets of tires and wheels.

Thanks for all the help
