Default Installed Ruf 5 speed in my 930

Just got my 79 930 back from the shop following install of Ruf 5 speed. All I can say is WOW. Made the car a whole different animal. Gearing keeps power up between shifts and it makes it feel like a whole different car. Looking to sell the original 4 speed, which is clean and ready to go. Although 4 speed shifted well I never cared for the gearing.

Where were you lucky enough to locate a Ruf 5 Speed?

And does your original 4 Speed have LSD?

The Ruf 5 speed box uses the original 940 4 speed box with an additional gear. I have posted the photo below a few times.

Default Ruf 5 Speed

I was lucky enough to find the Ruf trans when my mechanic had another customer with the Ruf who wanted to soften the feel of his car by switching to a G50-50. He is an older gentleman that did not like gear noise or the cable clutch. His loss my gain. Not sure if the 4 speed is LSD but I can find out.

Default 4 speed

Can you recall the condition of the 4 speed? Is this a 915 transmission? How much will you sell? Thanks

*****,
Ruf Singapore quoted me US$16k for the same transmission you have on. I told them to go jump in the river.

Some stupid questions- Can I take a normal 5speed 915 transmission from a eg. sc and fit on my 77 930? My syncrosmesh is wearing out and i'm thinking whether to repair or to do the sc 5speed box transplant, or sell the car and get a sc or carrera which think will be less fustrating in Singapore Traffic!

Default Ruf 5 speed

The 4 speed is in excellent condition and well maintained. The only reason it is available is because of the Ruf trans availability. My wife doesn't know what I am up to ( secret to a happy marriage ). I would like to get $2000 or best offer. The concern would be shipping as it is heavy and would require special packing. I am located in Southern California.

Yen,
I would grab *****'s 930 transmission. Trust me the 915 transmission is good but in my opinion not as strong as the 930 and it will eventually give way with you ending up to pay even more. Besides I have not seen your ride around, whats your registration plate?

I would be interested in that kit and I think the correct people to contact would be Guards Transmission or Patrick Motorsports, I'm pretty sure they would have all athe ratios, specs and parts for the conversion. It's their speciality.

Yen,
The best thing to do is just change to the original 930 steel synchros, even my 3rd gear synchro is going. The 930 g/boxes are bullet proof and you want to hold on to it trust me. I think I might have seen your ride around. Where do you service it? Let me guess Teutonic or Stephens place I think it used to be called Chequred flag?

I sticked to Powertune ever since my 924. Think your idea is the most practical. Thanks!

I've been Jackson Lim who was from Ruf Automobile. He is the only mechanic in Singapore who has trained and worked with race Porsches like the 934,935 in Germany and also was with Ruf in Germany. He is also very meticulous in his workmanship. Other than him I'm with Ahwai from Stuttgart. Thay have been with Porsches for 30 years already and can tell you the part number of many parts without looking into the manuals. Yes they cost more but it's worth every cent. Take a look at the threads of "My engine rebuild pics", just thought I'd share this with you.
