I hear ya. I normally get ~5mpg and my engine is bone stock. Turbos are thirsty!

I took the 930S off the road a couple weeks ago when I paid $1.13(Can) for premium. Mind you it's far from what it is now but now I'm glad I decided to before having to fill it for storage. I can afford to drive it but it just pisses me off to pay into the BS going on.... highway robbery. If this keeps up I'm selling the car... anybody want an 87' factory slantnose, 100% original?

It cost me $50 to fill my VW fox daily driver this morning. i put my streetbike on the road to ride to work now so I can go 180+ for the samr cost as my VW

We are getting so ripped off

also, I think we'll see a lot more e-Bay toys up for sale, and not because of the usual Fall dump after the Summer fun...

what's prices like near you all? Regular is 2.89, Plus 2.99, Premium 3.09 just this week. seen as high as 3.45 for Premium...
LOL...with the amount of $ we spent just to purchase our cars, let alone the maint. gas prices mean nothing to most of us. Just drive your car and stop worrying life is way to short.

I am reviving this thread, because I am finally to the point with my project (i.e., it's running well after my engine rebuild) that fuel mileage is my remaining concern, and the 25 mpg figure here was a standout.

I'm getting around 13-14 mpg in mixed city/highway use, around 17-18 in straight highway driving. Admittedly, I still haven't got control over my right foot - is the power addictive, or what? So, highway fuel mileage with a better disciplined drive might be better. Is the 25 mpg figure from Geoffrey with EFI?

I'm not just thinking of the cost of fuel, the mileage is a good indication of how well tuned the engine is, too. This car was so far out of whack when I got it, that I don't have a useful baseline from my own experience. My car is a 1977 3.0, with SC cams, euro exhaust, K27-7200 and Andial 8:39 final drive. Any input on what I should expect/shoot for would be appreciated.

I get 24- 26 hwy, 16-17 around town with my Link EFI. If I put my foot in it, well, it drops. I find with the improved low end throttle response, I drive it more like a "normal" car.

I get 19-22mpg with my CIS motor.
Tripster has fine tuned his CIS to deliver 23-24mpg.
These figures are interstate driving at 80mph.
I don't drive mine near as much as I used to because of fuel prices. 19-22mpg plummits to 10mpg quickly when you start hitting boost. There is no need to drive this car if I am watching to see that the boost gauge doesn't move. You're nothing more than a poser at that point.

So, what did "fine tuning" mean? Are these on stock compression ratios? Stock ignition? Thanks in advance. Tom

Yesterday after going on a Porsche Club drive in the Florida woods I put 16 gallons worth $55.00 into "the baby." Cost me about $70 to put regular in the Suburban and fill it up. It ain't gonna' get any better either.

Fuel is one part of the equation but im more worried that there will be a sell off of turbos that will devalue our cars.We could see $10k wiped off their value easily maybe more if supply exceeds demand. Now that would buy a lot of gas - even here in the uk! So dont spread panic about fuel or we will all suffer!

Thats over $9 A GALLON!
I'll second that - I just spent £90 on fuel this weekend! Funnily though - I don't care what I spend on gas. I drove 500 miles in my car on the weekend and still felt sad as I put her away for the week...

I would not recommend selling the wondercars yet. Oil and refined products should decline unless there is major disruption. I would guess a settling point of around 60 per barrel. Refined gas is already lowering to just under 2 wholesale. Enjoy the boost

Do us a favour over the pond, ring Tony Blair and get him to bring our fuel prices in line with yours, in fact we'd settle for paying twice as much as you guys, cheers

"So, what did "fine tuning" mean? Are these on stock compression ratios? Stock ignition? Thanks in advance. Tom"

It was fairly involved. Stock compression, stock ignition. The fuel head was disassembled and cleaned, the WUR was modified for adjustability and tweeked until perfect, the mixture was adjusted to 3% CO.
The difference between my 19+mpg and his 23+mpg may be optimized gearing. He added a custom 5th gear to his 915 that sits right in the motor's "sweet spot" at 80mph. Mine spins at a much higher RPM at 80mph.
