Default Newbie needs help on '87 purchase

Hi all,

I could use some help on a potential purchase of an '87 911 Turbo, 24,000 miles, Guards Red with black interior.

I had all but made up my mind on a new '06 S until I saw this car for sale locally. I drove a number of '85-'88s back when they were new, and I've always loved them. When I saw such a beautiful example for sale I decided to put my plans to purchase a new '06 on hold and look into this.

However, the price seems very high - even for such low mileage and great condition. The dealer is listing at approx. $44,000. Is there any way this is a reasonable price?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi there,

It's too much money. Without knowing the car, the only way it's worth that is if it's an '89 (final year and the only one with five speed) and even then that's on the high side unless it's a cabriolet, a "Special Wishes" car, or an original Slant Nose. Be advised that low mileage isn't always a good thing with these cars. They are meant to be driven regularly...sometimes VERY hard. Leave them sit for too long and you'll have major problems. My car is an '87, in showroom condition with, 40,000 miles when I bought it three or four months ago. I paid $35K. Mine came with a brand new B&B header system, and 18" three piece wheels (brand new). I also got every original part that had been removed from the car including the Fuchs alloys. My car had also been driven regularly. Shop around...there are plenty for sale.

Jeff

Is this the one at Tischer? I went to see it last night and as soon as I approached the car the salesperson attacked! and said nice car, I said yes but not for that price and he replied how about 1K off and I said no thanks.

After I finished looking at it and started to walk away he said you can get it for $39K I told him I would let him know.

Just from what I saw it was in great shape. I saw two small scratches on the hood but no big deal.

Over all it is a very clean car, not to sure what a fair price would be.

Default That's the one

That's the one Bernard.

I spent some time over there also. I had them down around 37,900 ... which is still higher than I want to pay for it. I'm not sure what the price should be - which is why I'd love some expert guidance from other members - but I just know I've seen cleaner for more reasonable $$$. The car is in very good condition, but it's not pristine by any stretch of the imagination.

I did test drive it. The engine felt very strong and smooth. Steering was very good and the car tracked great. It's been a long time for me, but this thing felt like just as much of a beast as I rememberd.

On the down side, the brakes felt pretty spooky. I haven't driven one of these in a VERY long time so I'm by no means an expert, but I don't remember every finding the brakes to be anything but excellent on this model. It just didn't seem to have much stopping power or feedback from the brakes.

Overall, though, if they keep coming down on price I may seriously consider it.

timnitti,

I see the care is no longer for sale, did you end up buying it?
