Slownrusty,

My comments were based on your cars of past, and your car of present. If you modify this car too look like you other cars, gauges, bling bling wheels, etc, you will have a tough time at resale. It was not a jab at your taste, but one of monitary influence.

The 930 is a car that even the best tuners have a hard time selling with major modifications. Their modifications are European based, which is the norm for these cars.

Good luck and enjoy your new car. They are fun.

Default Hi Yasin

Yup, I am the original owner of my RX-7. It was my graduation present to myself for sticking through with my ME degree. I have given it the complete Racing Beat treatment over the years. It still has the original 12A in it but puts out about 150 HP (50% over stock). Keep in mind that the car only weighs 2300 lbs. I have repaintedd it, but it was a complete tear down (0 rust, it has never seen a snow flake) and we repainted it in Porsche Saphire Blue Metallic after this 944 Turbo I saw in a parking lot on a drissly day one time that was literally glowing!

The Miata is also a wonderful car. It is quite possibly the best handling car in the world. It too has been treated to the complete Racing Beat treatment and apparently their car with the same package holds the current world record for slalom.

Between the two of them, there is no question that the Miata's dual wishbone suspension front and rear is superior to the RX-7's solid rear axle layout and like I said I could not get by my son in the Miata with me in my 300+ HP 944 Turbo on a fairly tight track. But the RX-7 has more power and rides much smoother than the Miata which has a fairly bouncy rattly ride. On a track I think that they would be neck & neck.

The Strosek is a truly rare find. Some people like the style, some like the original look. They're both right! I like it a lot, when my wife comes driving down the street with the top down it stops traffic (she just got it in an upcoming Woddy Harrelson movie... her deal, I like to work on em and drive em).

Between ANZIANO's and PROTOTECH the previous owner spent a bloody fortune on the car. David at Prototech told me it was the nicest conversion he'd ever seen. Below is what the write up on it said...

You are bidding on one of the finest examples of a classic Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet in the United States. I know it's a BOLD statement but let me tell you why. The car is absolutely brand new inside and out! Don't let the age fool you, pictures are worth a thousand words.
The car has seen extensive restoration in the last seven years while in the very capable hands of two very well know Porsche Specialists on both coasts. The owner wanted the best in the business to modify his Porsche so sending it to California was the only option. 7 years ago he shipped a 911 Turbo Cab shell to Anziano's Bad Boy Cars in Santa Ana California to undergo its first stages of revitalization. There, Bob Anziano put his signature "Strosek" package on the car changing most of the body panels on the car into what you see today, giving it a much sleeker look and wider stance. It was painted beautiful factory Porsche Maritime Blue and given a new interior. While on the rotisserie the complete undercarriage was stripped, and resprayed with black undercoating giving it that fresh off the assembly line look. The car was given 17x9 and 17x11 OZ racing wheels with some serious rubber out back, 315/35/17's to be exact. Every piece of the exterior and interior was replaced or refurbished by the end of the restoration and was given back to the owner with a $74,000 price tag.
Once the car was brought back to Florida, the drivetrain was re-installed and the car was driven for about a year. At this time the owner decided that the interior needed to be updated and the power train brought up to a level of performance to match the aggressiveness of the exterior. He then contacted David Hart of Proto Tech in Ft Lauderdale, Florida to arrange a more extensive overhauling of the rest of the car. this is where it really gets fun. They pulled the drive train out and completely tore it down for rebuilding. According to David, the motor was rebuilt, some mild re-profiling of the cams, a larger K27 Turbocharger was added, along with a huge polished top mount intercooler to keep the intake charge cooled for more horsepower and reliability. Also added were a lightweight flywheel and performance clutch to help put the added power to the ground. B&B shorty headers were also installed with a Proto Tech Exhaust system. A Mocar oil cooler, 930 Turbo brakes front and rear with cross drilled rotors, Bilstein Adjustable shocks and coilovers in the rear. The engine was re-fitted and tuned to a mild 400hp. You may think 400hp isnt that much but when you factor in the extreme light weight of this car (approx 2000 lbs) the Power to Weight Ratio is staggering. The nice thing about having a light car is that you can do a mild tune for reliability reasons but still have a very fast car. The car is currently running .8 bar of boost which barely gets this turbo breathing! If you want more, you can have it tuned to a higher level if you so desire.
While at Proto Tech, the car underwent some other necassary updates and modifications. They started by gutting the interior and bringing in newer C2 components having them wrapped in plush grey leather. Dash, Door panels, seats, all replaced. Mercedes plush carpet and insulation was also installed. The car now has a factory power top, power windows and locks, Proto Tech guages including oil pressure, oil level, fuel, temperature, tachometer, speedometer, and Boost. While the interior was out, the entire car was rewired, carefully replacing every circuit and adding air conditioning and a sound system. The seats are now power adjustable, and a leather wrapped 4 point roll bar was installed. David remembered the underside of this car being immaculate and it still is. I had it on a lift myself yesterday to verify this. He also remembered that the last owner spent an obscene amount of money with his company, although he could not give me an exact figure since the work was done approx. 5 years ago. He did tell me that they zeroed out the Odometer when the completed the project and right now it's showing 6746 miles. The car is still just as nice now as when it left their shop! The car has ac, heat, defroster, and all lights and guages work properly on this car. A brand new top was installed yesterday and the pictures you see are the first time it has ever been down.
If you are looking for a classic Porsche with lots of refinement, stunning performance, and attention grabber looks, you've just found your next car. The car has had over $130,000 worth of work done in the last 7 years and only 6746 miles driven since then. Add to that the original purchase price of the vehicle and you have a very expensive, collectible automobile.

I believe that most of what was written is true. I obviously did not pay anywhere in the range of what was invested, but like David Hart said the owner was a wealthy billionaire who was an absolute fanatic and cost was no object. It was a blast to drive back from Florida!

Attached are a couple of more photos and if you want to see some more send me your e-mail address. I love to drive each of the cars, each one has a different personality and it's own strengths and weaknesses. the Porsches are truely special though and since I am 100% German and my father is a prolific engine and compressor designer & inventor from the old country who used to consult for Porsche and others (he was quite well known in the engine circles of SAE, etc.) I am partial toward them. But I too have a lot of respect for Kenichi Yamamoto and Mazda for being able to make the rotary work in a commercial automotive application since I grew up designing and developing my fathers Free-Piston engines and know how difficult it is to develop radically new commercially successful engines (forget about it).

I am sorry if I was rambling on too long, attached are a few more nice pictures that I have. Hope that you enjoy them.

Best regards!

Tom

Default Hi Sameer

Thanks Sameer: It has a nice Linen color interior too. It was a 2 owner car and the 2nd owner had owned it for about 16 years and taken great care of it.

The black one is an 87 that had 74k on it when I bought it for about 10 cents/mile (not bad eh). It is basically stock with the exception of a "chip", a hollowed out "cat" and a Lindsey Racing Boost Enhancer (oh yeah and a K&N Air Filter). Naturally we put new Koni Yellows and some good rubber 225's Front, 245's Rear. It also has a new clutch and timing belts.

It doesn't sound like much but that car is FAST. I was driving it home across New Mexico and was heading into a strong head wind (20 knots). When I ran out of straightaway I was doing 160mph (and it gets there in a hurry)! It's super reliable and my son is living large. He makes all the payments and we get to go out racing together which is the part of fatherhood that we all live for!

Take care!

Well, I think the red one is way sporty looking. The rims make the car look killer, without going overboard. Great selection. As well, I have to ask. Who beats who? Or does dad allow his son to win?

Hi Tom - Thanks for posting pics of your 944s, RX and your Strosek and I enjoyed reading the eBay description \ write-up as well. You definately have a truley unique and awesome car with the Strosek and alot of presence too! I remember when Anzianos were getting a fair bit of magazine coverage back in the day with their unique body kits, conversions and pait jobs - I bet I have every magazine article, might need some digging but I could probably find them. I always remebered that specific font they used and also the "Anziano's Bad Boys" stickers.

As for the Miata, I have an article by J's Tipo in Japan - they entire magazine is in Kanji (do you know that magazine?) and it says that the best three handling cars ever produced from Japan:
1) Miata
2) Corolla GT-S RWD '84-'87
3) Nissan Siliva \ 240SX 1989-1993

Anyway the Miatas stick like glue! I actually like the solid live axle set-up on the RX as well, and you can definately make them stick too. That is very neat that you have the full compliment of Racing beat suspension components and upgrades on both cars. Also its great to see youur 12A solidiering on as well - kudos! I have great respect for Mazda for sticking with the rotary and making it work (not too mention refining and refining it over the years) especially after so many frustrating developmental years where they came close to abandoning the entire concept...they made Felix proud!

Thanks again for sharing -

Yasin
P.S: I am Civil Engineer btw...LOL!

ENGINEERMAN,

I hear David Raines at PowerHaus is pretty good with the 944 and 968 cars. You never know when the mod bug bites...

Always has to be someone who hates on the rice...If it's fast, I dig it (keyword FAST)...I don't give a frig if it's a hopped up Hyundai...Sure, I love my 930, but my favorite is my daily '94 eg hatchie w/B18C1. Fantastic work on your cars, bro...Dare to be different...
