Default Intercooler for K27HF

Getting ready to draw up list of things to do during winter, so am considering "upgrading" my intercooler.

Just wonder if anyone has done a full bay conversion with the K27HF?
Does it need a full bay? What cfm should I use for calculations?

thanks.

Talk to Brian Keith Smith (a 'lister), he just did this conversion (among others).

PT,

talk to Stephen Kaspar at Imagine Auto - he should point you in the right direction.

Best regards

PT:

Here are my pics. I bought an intercooler core from Bell Intercoolers that flows 1010cfm. I bought a 25x10x3.5 core.

Thanks for the pic Brian... Just curious - how did you come up with needing 1010 cfm core?

From what I remember, you switched to EFI? I am just wondering if there's any difference in cfm requirements for CIS vs EFI? I suspect not but then EFI will create better combustion so might "flow" more than CIS would?

I was told to base cfm off of expected HP. If you expect 600HP, multiply that by 1.5 to get your cfm rate.

So that is what I based it on.

I think EFI flows more than CIS (simply an opinion).

I will tell you that if you have a K27HF using GHL headers you will more than likely run into overboost. I have a .8 spring and can easily see 1.4bar.

Ask hobieboy on this board. He has experienced .95 bar with a .6 boost spring with a K27HF and GHL's. Just keep that in mind.

well no you did - at least now I have a starting point of considering how to size an intercooler.
Though the million dollar question becomes: will I really see any improvements over the Garretson I have?
