Default Future 930 owner.....

Hey guys, I'm interested in a 930 with only 26K miles, it'll need new paint but it runs like a dream. He's asking 15K. It's a '79. Any ideas of what I should look for? This would be a replacement of my current 951 so I'm gonna need to see what are common problems with these cars etc. It's black on black and it's a german ( or european version) version ( i think) it has the real nice vents on the fender. Well anyway, do you guys have any tips as to what to look for? How is the maintainance on these cars? Is it MUCH more expensive to upgrade than a 951? Well, any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

First to first, run a leak down and compression test. From there pull the valve covers and look for broken head studs. You will want to check the tranny for worn syncros or a noisy diff. Also check the suspension areas really well. The rear trailing arms often come up broken at the alignment points where they adjust. The rest is all common such as body, paint, rust, worn shocks, lines etc. For 15K I personally would be on it even if the motor was weak and needs paint. BTDT so many times I forget, and they were more than 15K. The 79 is a good year with some nice goodies.

Thanks for the reply Stephen. I'll be sure to look at those points. The owner told me the car runs great, and it's a one owner car. The one owner being a woman. She never drove it. So, I'll have to see how it runs and drives.

What are some of the goodies that came with the '79?

One of the best of course is the fuel head. The cast units were a much larger inner bore and lines. The system is the more desirable setup. Also the 78s and 79s were the same the Euro cars with the exception that of the DOT bumpers and glass.

BTW take any owners thoughts with a grain of salt. LOL, they are trying to sell the car. Never buy one without a PPI.

What year of the 930 would you guys recommend for a road car? Any year that you would avoid? I think I've been bitten by the 930 bug like silverbullet951. 'Probably that poster on my wall of a silver 930 coupe' when I was a kid.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks guys, I'll be sure to look for any common problems. It's a euro version, so I'm assuming it has 300 hp. What were the specs for a euro '79 930?

I looked up some info on a website and it told me a 5.2 0-62, and an 11. something from 0-100. How is it as far as upgrading is concerned? I see that powerhaus has a kit that has a potential of 560 rwhp at one bar of boost. Sounds like an insane package.

Well, any other info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks again guys.

only one place to go for 930's. Imagine Auto. Price is lower than most. Powerhaus have a bad reputation on their delivery.

Nice intro!

Can you guys make more than 440 on the 930?

Powerhause is claiming 560 at the wheels, thats like 660 at the flywheel.

Is your 440 hp figure at the wheels or at the flywheel?

Thanks for your help stephen.

I have made over 700 to the wheels. That is not a problem. The kits we have listed are conservative and within the limits of the CIS. 560RWHP on the CIS will be physically impossible.

What's the CIS? I'm not familiar with that. 700 hp? WOW that's insane. Well I guess I'll take your word for it, you modify these cars. Looks like I'm getting closer to purchasing the car. Plus I get to keep the 951!! Looks like I'll have the best of both worlds I'm going to speak with the owners tomorrow and i'll take it for a test run.

Thanks again.

CIS is Constant Injection System. The injection is present on the 930s. It measures air via a plate and will determine the amount of fuel based on how far this plate is sucked down. No computers are present. The system is based on pressure and flow. The injectors are always firing from a resident system pressure, control pressure which is additional to the system will fatten or lean the car out by placing more or less pressure inside the fuel head. This is a simplified explanation, but understandable. The system max out near 500 FWHP. Hope this helps.

Thanks Stephen.

Two more questions. Are those HP figures you have on your website at the wheels or at the flywheel?
Plus It states that those HP figures are for the US version. With your kits, would the Euro versions make more power than what you state on your site?

Thanks.
