Correct wheel offsets for 86 930
Hi,
What is the correct wheel backspacing for an 86 930.
I want to get a set of wheels 11x17 for the rear and 9.5x17 for the front. I was figuring on getting a set that did not use the factory spacers.
Thanks
Ed

From: Dallas, then Annapolis - now Laguna Beach CA. Well, not so fast - I'm back in Dallas. For good!
I suppose you could do that, but....
That Factory spacer is 28 mm. That means if you got a wheel that didn't use it, you'd have 28mm of extra stud to deal with. Or you'd be changing studs.
One thing to be careful abt is backspacing vs. offset. Porsche goes by offset, and for these cars it's 23.3 mm.
If you start messing with different offsets you can get into additional stress on wheel bearings and other problems (a set of wheels you can't sell for example).
When I was shopping for wheels, I initially wanted that "deep dish" look too. Then I saw an old DP 935 copy with a set of deep dish 15 inch Fuchs and it looked VERY "dated". I got modern wheels, stuck with stock spacers (I actually went just a thicker to get the wheels to the edge of the fender), and I'm glad I did.
My 2 cents.

I would have thought that no spacer would be better on the wheel bearings than even the stock spacer.
What I am trying to achieve is, I have a 911 race car with gt2 flares. I also have a 79 930. What I would like to do is to have a set of wheels that fit the 930, but also fit the racer with minimal spacers. I am still going to need spacers of about an inch thick.
I figured that if I got wheels that would still fit the 930 without spacers, then I could use them for both cars and they would still have resale value for other 930's
