Default Considering a 2007 Porsche 911 turbo

Hello,

My husband’s dream car has always been a 911 turbo. He is turning 40 in a few months and we are in a position to buy a used one. We are looking at a couple options, both 2007 with automatic transmission. We test drove one today and fell in love. Is the car worth the $60k+ price tag? I was eyeing a 2015 Carrera S that is the same price, but my husband has his heart set on the 911 turbo. Thanks in advance for your insight!

That would be a nice birthday present. The '07 Turbo is a great car. You'll probably get a lot more feedback from the '997 turbo forum' though. If you're concerned with resale, the manual tends to be preferred over the Tiptronic (auto) but if you want auto that's what you should get. Values seem to have settled as well, maybe even creeping back up so it's not a bad 'investment' as far as cars go. Good luck with the hunt.

Yes it's well worth $60k. It's worth 3x that if you ask me.

Thank you both for your feedback. I spent a lot of time on the forums last night and now know that the 997 is the designation for this model year I will post over there, too.

We aren’t very concerned about resale, simply because we plan on keeping the car for the foreseeable future. My husband wants the TipTronic because it’s apparently nominally faster. We can both drive a manual, but I’m frankly fine with an automatic so I don’t have to worry about burning a clutch out (it’s been a long time since I drove a manual!)

If he doesn't care either way...def get the manual...newer turbos are all automatic so the 997 TT is rare that it still retains the manual and the tip isn't great compared to modern autos (PDK)

Agree w raclaims above, if you have a choice get the manual but the tippy is very fast and more than holds its own on the track.
