Project almost complete, first drive. Final tuning left then a good underside clean and nap time until the salt clears. I have some very minor and reversible work to do to make the car mine (leather shift boot, color wheel crests, set of NOS yellow fog light lenses, circa '80's NOS Lucas eCodes), careful refresh of the plastic trim and that is about it. I did add a Porsche CHMSL from a later 930 in the name of safety. ~50k mile, no bodywork, one owner time warp car that fell into our laps. It drove ~950 miles in the past decade and last drove in '23 hence the mechanical work. Cannot wait for Spring, like being a kid again and getting a Christmas present that you cannot use First world problems...

Lovely Turbo --- can't get any better than a Yellow '79 930 Turbo
Hi, I'm Martin, co-founder of PRINZIP R - a small restomod and backdate atelier near Stuttgart, Germany. My partner Marco has owned over 35 air-cooled 911s since buying his first at 25. I come from a very different world (management consulting and tech), but the aircooled flat-six pulled me in and never let go.
This is one of our current builds - a 930 Turbo stripped to bare metal and rebuilt without compromise. The spec:
- 3.4L boxer with Mahle motorsport internals
- Garrett twin-scroll turbo for quick boost AND power
- G50 5-speed gearbox swap
- Output: 600 hp, air-cooled, switchable maps (450 for cruising), EFI with ECU Master EMU Classic ECU, dyno video exists.
- liquid to air intercooler for reliable and repeatable high performance - not a one time pull car.
We do all bodywork in hand-formed steel rather than carbon - it's more labor-intensive but we believe it's the right approach for cars that actually get driven. Steel ages with the car, repairs conventionally, and the panel behavior under paint is simply better in direct sunlight.
This 930 is part of our R+ OEM-plus line - the idea is to keep the original body shape and character but make the car dramatically better to drive, more reliable, and genuinely usable. No garage queens - these are built to cross borders on a Friday afternoon.
Would love to hear what other 930 turbo owners here are running for turbo setups - especially interested in what people have done with the cooling and intercooler packaging on higher-output builds.
Salt is washed away, faded headlight trim and a few other minor issues addressed, some NOS Lucas H4 headlamps and a good drive. Even got her inspection sticker, always a bit disconcerting with even the best older cars.
Now to get the Soul Glo off the tires. Local shop that did some work put it on, I appreciate the effort but a little shiny for my taste....
