The color is actually Nougat Brown Metallic. I believe it was available for only two years, 86' and 87'.

Yes, the wheels are 6's and 7's, which were standard for 87'.

I second the Mobil 1 recommendation.

My SC has 162,000 km on it, is a daily driver, and is parked on a freshly-poured garage floor. In the past 6 months, I have accumulated only 2 drops of oil on the new garage floor, and the engine uses almost no oil -- one litre per 7,000 km of lead-footed highway, track, and autocross punishment.

If you car is leaking now, Mobil 1 may be a bit pricy to be pouring on the ground. But if its not leaking now, my experience suggests it won't start simply because you changed to Mobil 1.

It was I that confused the thread about wheel sizes. Sorry for that.

My car is an 89 chassis number registered in Nov 88. The front wheels look like 6J's (just like Johns), there is a one inch rim which turns vertical. But the rears look exactly like those in g-50cabs' photo, (except for mine being black).

'Bobs flat six' mentions the lugs being recessed into the rims on 9J's. Well looking at my wheels, the front lugs stand proud of the paddles (or spokes), whilst the rear lugs are flush with the spokes. The front tyres bulge out beyond the rim by a good inch, but the rears are almost flush.

I have to fit a new indicator stalk tomorrow, but will remove a couple of wheels to check the part numbers/sizes.

Sorry for high-jacking this thread.

Regarding oil, according to all the bills that accompanied my car, (I have every bill since new including the original sales invoice) it appears that Mobil1 0W40 has been used since 1996 at least. I am not sure when Mobil1 became available, but 96 is when the car stopped being serviced by Porsche dealers and went over to a specialist. The same company has serviced her since then. Over the last two nights, Penelope has not left a single drop on the floor.

I just wanted to restate (for the new owner), that switching to synthetic oil 'may' cause the older cars to begin leaking. That's not to say that it will, but that it's a distinct possibility. I had read all of the 'warnings' from others (and quite a few folks cautioned against switching), but since mine was such a 'garage queen' with low mileage, I decided to 'roll the dice'...I lost! Since mine had never leaked a drop before, I now regret it (although it only leaks an occasional drop even after the switch back to dino, and it's not that big of a deal). I wish mine would have remained dry with the synthetic (I used Mobil 1 - 15W50) but she didn't. Just be aware of what 'might' happen...

I concur with KC911. My 928 never leaked a drop of oil until I went synthetic, Mobil 1 10-40. The concensis is that if there is a weak spot, synthetic will find it.
FWIW
YMMV

Guys,

Thanks for all the advice about oil. I think I'll stick with Dino just to be on the safe side. Besides, I'll only be driving about 2 to 3K a year and would hate to dump all that expensive synthetic out at the end of every season.

Jon,

Mine are European specs and I do not have any sway bar in the front. In fact, I have a rubber chin spoiler which envelopes the entire front valance. Guess there could have been slightly different specs between the USA and Euro ones. Enjoy playing with your car - it is a near endless pit as far as modifications are concerned.... very often limited by the depth of our pockets. : )
