Default 1980 911 SC chain tensioners

I bought 1980 SC targa and within the records provided there is a receipt for replacing chain tensioners in March 1986 when milage was 27224 and the miles are now 92500. the part # that was installed was 930-10-053--00(hard to read) hopefully thats the part #. Total cost was $650. So my question is do I need to worry about having the chain tensioners replaced or was this service done to replace the suspect parts that were new to the car when purchased? Thanks in advance for any replies.

Ok, so I'm going to assume that you are hoping to find out if the stock SC Chain Tensioners were upgraded to the much more reliable, and later model Carrera Chain Tensioners, which were oil-fed.

If so, easy way to tell... Look for smaller diameter (a few mm thick) metal tubing being ducted into the Timing Chain Cover.. Viewable by looking into the engine compartment, facing you on the right side of the motor, you'll see a flat, vertical facade of the engine. If you have the upgrade (fingers crossed), you will see said tubing!

Lower right side of the motor, facing you. This is the piping you want to see!

or if they replaced them with just original hydraulic tensioners, you should try to find out if safety collars were installed. if so they will prevent total collapse of the tensioner in event of failure so you can get it pulled to the side of the road and towed without major damage ( they stop the chain from skipping )
