Which Duck Tail?
I've been thinking about getting a duck tail for my car for a long time. I love the look. From time to time it would serve a practical use too(not lots of high speed driving).
My question is, what manufacturers out there are making reproductions? I seem to remember that there was one that boasted original type construction (fiberglass over steel frame?). Is there an advantage to the different constructions out there? Who out there is manufacturing duck tails? Are there ones that have better fit and finish (ie gaps) than another?
Any other comments?
Thanks
Tim

Tim,
Gary Kempton makes the steel frame Ducktails. Here is link to his site. I have never seen on of his spoilers in person, possibly others have. I think they are around $800, but that maybe higher than I remember.

Look through Pano and Excellence and you'll see who advertises them for sale. I've used Mike Shaw for several pieces, and his quality is pretty good. On any fiberglass pieces, be prepared for some prep work to make them ready for installation. Some require way more prep than others.

I bought a ducktail at the Pomona swap meet a few years ago and spent hours shaping and grinding to get the thing to fit. Even with all that work it never looked right and I couldn't get the top center edge to properly clear the body when opening with out excessive shims on the hinge arms. Recently I went with a GT Racing Duck tail. It cost close to 400.00, but it fit much better. Still required some work to lay down properly but the difference in quality was immediately realized. They have a complete catalog on their web site, www.gt-racing.com. Check them out, I've had very good luck with their products.

Thanks for the feedback Jim. This is just the thing I'm trying to avoid. I'll spend the extra bucks to get a better quality part (these things aren't always synonymous). I was anticipating some work to get a proper fit, but some body parts are so bad that nothing short of major surgery is required to get them to fit right.
Thanks again. Tim

I bought one from MA Shaw. Mike was a pleasure to deal with and my body guy said it was not nearly the hassel he thoguth it would be to mount it. I am getting it back today... I'll post some pictures.

Sure - both the MA Shaw ( http://www.mashaw.com/ )and GT Racing are excellent quality - and they fit. When I tried to install one of lesser quality - I had exactly Jim's experience. The GT-Racing fit fine, and since then - I've heard Mike's from MA Shaw is at least as good, if not better then the GT Racing part (it wasn't availble when I did my car). As well - Mike is a terrific person - and a Rennlist Sponsor - so if you call him, say "Hi" and "Thanks" for supporting the site..!!!
