Default Oil overfill...White smoke

Made the rookie mistake of putting to much oil in. It was idling fine about 3 minutes and then puff. It looked like smoke bombs were going off and she was not idling as smooth. I shut it down right away.

1) Did I cause a major problem?

2) I drain all oil, pump out all cylinders, put new plugs in and hope for the best?

How many quarts of oil did you put in it?
Maybe, you could put the correct amount of oil back in it and give it a whirl. Otherwise, you might think about finding someone to take a look at it so that you don't cause further damage.

My oil cooler line is leaking so I had no idea how much oil was in it. I put 3 quarts in with cold engine and it was at minimum level on dipstick.

Oh that's a fair bit

You have a couple of options.

Drain all oil and start over or use a suction pump. To pull it back out.

A third option is to just drain the crankcase. That's a couple of quarts. Then turn it over with fuel relay out to equalize

You will have to be a fogger for a while tho.
Pointless putting new plugs in right now until most of it is burned off. Then change plugs. Or you could do it a couple of times snd clean the plugs you take out.

I would just change the oil cooler line, drain the oil, and start over. If you have a catalytic, then consider removing it before starting the motor. It'll be loud, but you need to burn the oil out of the exhaust and that can plug up the cat and destroy it. Next time add just 1 quart, or half a quart. Always check oil with a warm engine while idling.

Other than making a mess like everyone else I don't think you hurt much. Assuming we are talking about a 911 the engine is a dry sump. Some oil probably got sucked into the intake and will load up the plugs and can foul the exhaust. Like the others suggest just drain & refill to start over.
