Default "Fun with numbers challenge" winnAr is...

Hearty congrats to "GothingNC" who submitted the highest guess of $30,000 for the total documented maintenance/service costs over 30 years on my newly acquired 911, shown here...

The actual total--which blew me away when I went through all the receipts--was...

$32,140.76!

What's even more amazing is that none of these costs arose from particularly unusual service visits. And the vast majority of service was performed by independents, not Porsche dealers. The highest-cost single service event was this one for $3,300...

The most out-of-the-ordinary cost related to the $1,600 purchase of a chip many years ago, and the subsequent $500 cost to replace it later on with a refurbished original Motronic one. If you drop out those costs, GothingNC's guess was virtually spot-on.

Well done, GothingNC!

Wow. I've never tried to calculate how much money I've saved doing my own maintenance (on all our cars) over the years, but that puts things in perspective.

... there is a fair bit of DIY evidence, too, but mostly oil change supplies purchased.

Nothing ever goes to waste when a 911 meats an early death. Dismantlers are quick to sell good parts and cars like yours and mine become the beneficiaries. I can totally see an owner of a car that nice swapping out heat exchangers for a fresher set or swapping out a cat that has a nicer heat shield. Done right, you'd never know.

I won't even take a receipt from the pawn shop. The last thing I need is for the wife to find one.

Yep.... I spent >$25k to make an $8k 928 many years ago. I sold it after doing the math and calculating the costs.
