Default tire/rim size

I recently picked up a set of 4 6x16 and 3 7x16 fuchs. What is the biggest rim/tire combination that I can run on my 76 Euro 911 without any modifications or tire rubbing? My back arches look like they are a little more flared then other 76s.Is it my imagination or were the Euro car's bodies different then the US versions? Right now I have 15" cookie cutters with 185/60/15s and get some tire squealing on sharp turns.(yes they are properly inflated). Also maybe a stupid question but in the deal I got a set of H rated 205/55/16 Goodyear Mud & Snow tires how would they perform on dry pavement.Thought I mount them and use them until I spring for new 16's.What is the best resonable 16" performance tire thease days?

If you have a '76 or '77 Carrera 3.0 then the rear flares are the same (9") flares as used on the later SC/Carrera models which can easily accomodate 9x16 w/ 245/45 tires w/o mods. Much larger can be fitted w/ some work.

If you have a normal 911 or 911S then you have the same narrow rear body as the period US cars did. There you are limited to maybe 7x16 w/ 225/50. I have no personal experience w/ these narrow bodies, just going by what I have heard.
