1977 911S restoration project status
I have owned a Porsche as long as most here, having purchased a Euro 1979, GrandPrix sunroof delete 930 in Germany, in 1985.
31 years later, original perfect paint, original seats resinstalled to replace Recaros used for 30 years. Trans ratios changed, K27S turbo, 930 S Swheel and boost gauge, Borla, and BOOST at 1,800 rpm!
So I watched a 150,000 mile 1977 911S Targa (I don't especially like flexible flyers) stored in my office building garage for 15 years, flat tires, oxidized black paint. Not running.
To save it I purchased it. I just had to do it, Thought was it would be a fun Porsche to drive, without the extreme personality of my 3.4Ruf engined beast. But not a track car, I have SCCA race cars, and I am afraid a Targa will bend in the middle during track duty.
Specifics: '83 SC 3.0 engine transplant with Carrera tensioners; restored interior, all gauges work, trans rebuilt. Engine not running. Top excellent, windshield new. Seats reupholstered. no cracks in dash. Lots of previous service history.
Update:
Engine leakdown, excellent, trans no synchro issues, fuel tank replaced, injectors, valves adjusted, Cam covers upgraded, LED light conversion and 15x7" black center cookie cutters installed.
Car runs very well, no oil consumption no oil from guides, and all leaks repaired. My standard requires a Wevo shifter and repainting the car, original black (all my cars are either white or silver!)
So what are these cars worth? Do Targa's deserve such a discount?
The car will be almost perfect after its repaint in February. I have decided to keep it entirely stock other than 3.0 SC engine. I wanted to put a ducktail on it, but original appearance is probably best.
Thanks for input. The car will be a keeper, but also will be an excellent car for others to enjoy without being a liability due to its excellent condition. Pictures do not show new H4 type LED headlignt conversion.

A repaint might lower the value. Anything you do to an original car will drop the value. Unless of course the car absolutely needs it.

Not much interest in this post, but I will chronical the restoration of this 40 year old 911S Targa.
Maybe not as rigid as a coupe, but top off in Spring, 3.0 engine purring with tight WEVO shifter. Black, and narrow.
I can always get bored and go to the white, wide, 3.4 Ruf (sunroof delete) when open air; and speed limits are not the priority. Black/White; Narrow/Wide, 200HP/420HP, the choices cover all the options.

Love it.
One of my favorite of the many P cars Ive owned was my 1976 911S Targa.
Keep the story rolling.

So what is the vote? Ducktail or original cover? Chin Spoiler will be installed; While others will say it is not worth much without the original 2.7L engine, the 1983 3.0L 204 HP engine and WEVO shift linkage and coupler wit ill make this car run better than original. And the Targa bar is now Stainless color (the proper look) instead of black

Three Wheelin'
A ducktail works on that car.
