Default Targa top lining

Hello again Team,

My Targa top is in pretty good shape except for the liner which has deteriorated (see the pix). I found the replacement but it looks like $375 for a piece of felt. Would it be better to secure high quality material and cut to fit?

Do I have to disassemble the (folding) mechanism to install?

I highly recommend you send the whole top to Dan Petchel. Money well spent.

yes I have heard disassembly is needed to do this . Mine is looking the same as yours . As this rest is perfect and don't want to disassemble to do this I was thinking of some double sided tape or something in the meantime just to keep it from falling on my head.

I'm pretty sure you can replace the headliner without major disassembly. It is actually the last piece that goes in during a rebuild.

You do have to remove the black metal clips that hold the top to the front and back sides of the frame when the top is unfolded. Then the headliner should pull off. The new one glues in. Just be careful, the two little screws that hold each of the clips in place screw into a metal plate that moves around to allow adjustment. You'll want to put the clips back in the exact same place (assuming they are working properly now).

Major disassembly is only needed to take off the outer skin. Here is a great thread with lots of pictures.

My top is going to need a rebuild, and I had been planning to do it myself, but now I think when I get to this point I'm going to send it to Dan Petchel.

The previous owner of my car used Autobahn Interiors and they did a great job.
