Unhappy Engin Stalls

Driving at about 4,000rpm when I let off throttle the engine stalls. As long as I kept the rpm above 1,000 the engine would keep running. I thought I had bad gas and the problem went away. Then the same thing happened about two weeks later, but has not gone away. 1981 SC Fuel Injected

It could be many things; ignition or fuel related.
But recently, I helped a friend, his car ('80 SC) was having the same symptoms.

We found the timing was very *retarded*; about -5 degrees BTDC.
A few minutes with a timing light and wrench and all was well.

As he had just bought the car, it seemed like a PO may have been 'experimenting'.
