Default 911SC brake lamp -dim or non-functioning

My drivers side brake lamp is operating intermittently. It either functions properly, not at all, or is noticeably dim. Ground issue? Can someone advise me how to troubleshoot?

I would appreciate any help!

Grounds, plug, corrosion near bulb base, or...

that little flat spring for the center contact is not touching well

Thanks r911...so I remove the lens cover, remove the bulbs then remove the housing to inspect?

Yes. Removing the housings every few years is part of regular maintenance just to lighten the rear of the car. You will understand when several pounds of dirt and gravel fall into your lap...

Bad design - and be careful with the screws/nuts on the housings; they are likely corroded.

Somebody should design LEDs to replace the bulbs and sockets; and make plastic housings with less depth so they won't form a shelf to catch whatever the rear wheels throw up there, and lose some wt. in a critical spot.
