Default Driving from L.A. or S.F. to the Monterey Historics?

Driving from L.A. or S.F. to the Monterey Historics (aka Monterey Motorsports & Werks Reunion)?

Here are a few routes many of you may already know. But for those who don't, they will provide a unique experience. Enjoy!

Awesome!! Flying into Santa Cruz from CT, then driving down for the Concours and BMW celebration activities. I'm sure I'll be able to intercept the SF route, too bad it will be in an older lender Jag xkr, and not my 911... Thanks for the routes!

We have made the journey from Los Angeles to Hurst Castle several times, but only once have we gone all the way to Monterey. We did it via Big Sur and found the scenery breathtaking all along the way. We were sitting at the entry to Laguna Seca and decided we were hungry and flew down the 101 to Moonstone just in time...

Our usual stopping point is Moonstone Beach where http://www.seachestrestaurant.com/ is by far the highlight of the trip. They only take cash and sometimes you have to watch the surf for an hour before you get in. Totally worth it. That's all.

Headed west from the east yet again for this wonderful group of events!

You should have a great time in an excellent lender, I have one of those too.
Unfortunately, I wont have that or one of my Porsches to make the drive up the coast.. a lender BMW if I'm lucky, or some sort of rental if I'm not. Never the less looking forward to the excellent drive and Concours and BMW celebration activities!!

A very large wild fire (the Soberness Fire) is still burning just south of Carmel Highlands and Carmel Valley. This fire should not disrupt any car-week activities other than providing smokey skies.

But portions of US 1 may need to be closed between Big Sur and Carmel at different times. Evacuation warning areas also border on parts of Carmel Valley road well east of the event locations.

Any road closures may disrupt somewhat road trips or tours associated with the events.

If you plan to come north on US 1, or from the east on Carmel Valley Road (county road G16), please check first to make sure they're open.

The fire is 55% contained now, and is not expected to be completely controlled until the end of August.

You can zoom in on this Google map to see the current extent of the fire.

Yeah, I have had my eye on this daily. Sad stuff, all because of an illegal 2x2ft camp fire left unattended.....72,000 acres GONE. They say the smoke tainted this seasons grapes so significantly, that the wine will be noticeably smokey in the future.

Im driving from SoCal up to Carmel for the Werks Reunion and took the suggestion to drive the 33 to 166. The drive is absolutely amazing! It doesn't start off strong, but if you give it a little time, you'll find yourself in what may be the best driving road ever through the "Los Padres National Forest" area. Completely uninhabited twisty roads with a beautiful view! The only thing you need to watch out for are the very occasional bicycle rider.

At at the end, you'll have some amazing straights through the 166 ending at the 101. If you haven't tried this drive you've got to do it. It's amazing!

Did you mean 166, rather than 169? There are better roads a bit north of those also listed in that article.
