Default Please help identify part from door

While repairing the electric lock solenoid ball/socket, I found the pictured part in the bottom of my door (on my '85 Carrera targa (red)).
I think I know what it is, but I would like some confirmation from someone that actually knows.
I suspect it is from an old part that has already been repaired.
By the way, the picture was taken on my garbage can , that is not what my paint looks like.

window work ok?

that is the anchor for the circular wound spring in there, which was poorly designed by Porsche and often breaks

Default thanks

thanks !
But, yes, my window works great.
Is the circular wound spring part of the window mechanism or the door lock??

window

maybe a PO already fixed it and did not remove that piece - you can save it as a memento

or... maybe it broke off and the spring is still working, but will jam up later on

Yes, I am hoping it is an old part that broke off and the PO replaced it (but did not see it sitting in the door). Would he have had to replace the whole window regulator?

I looked in the door, then tried with a mirror, then felt around with my hand and I was not able to determine if a piece like the one pictured was in the assembly with the spring in my door or not.

What symptoms should I look for if it is a new failure and if it did break off the spring?

it might break at any time if it is not held in place by that part - the slot holds the spring and the other side is where it is pinned into a metal bracket

if the door card is off, see what the center of the spring looks like - is there another piece like that in the center of the spring?

if you pop off the door card, start thinking about what else to do while inside the doors

Yes, the door card is off.
I can only see the edge of the spring and I cannot tell if that piece is in the center or not.
Are you sure you can see it without taking the window regulator out?

I've lubed up all of the mechanisms in there and I will be replacing the "socket" at the end of the rod that is driven by the lock solenoid.
I don't plan on doing anything else in there, but I will listen to suggestions !!!

I've only owned earlier MYs and non-turbos, so can't say for sure - try a mirror to see things, or a borescope
