Need Help - Aftermarket Seats...
(Posting for a friend)
Dear List,
I was wondering what peoples' experiences have been with aftermarket sport seats (89 Targa). Which seats have the tallest backs, and how much more headroom can one gain without modifying the rails, etc?
Also, can a steering wheel hub extender (with or without airbag wheel) be installed on the steering column of airbag equipped cars?
Thanks for the help.

I looked at a lot of seats and the current model of "recaro sport" seat is the best seat out there, they feel great, they look great, and they only cost about 750.00 per seat ( sliders extra about 150.00 for a pair ) and besides looking great they hold up very well in an accident as I can testify to.

there are lots of seats out there that are not as well engineered.

I am somewhat intrigued by the Cobra Misano seats, which are touted as being the lightest reclining seats available.
These would offer the added benefit of a little weight loss while keeping the convenience and comfort of reclining back.
I however don't know anyone with these seats, so no first hand experience.
Good Luck,

MOMO's, Sparco's and Corbeaus are pretty cheap, but unfortunatly are quite cheaply made as well. Factory, Recaro, or the great Rob Pederson replicas are the best quality. For track use go with a Kirkey.

I would find a set of older manual (lighter) sport seats. The power ones are fine, but are heavier(48 lb ea). I was planning on using aftermarket in my 944 which has power sports. They are so nice and so comfortable that I could not change them with a seat which would not have looked as harmonius with the (brown) interior and not had the quality of the porsche seats. I love the way the headrest supports you if you want to relax your neck and lean back for a while. I miss this when I drive other cars.
I am putting together a 911 now, and just bought some older sports that need a little work, but they will be worth it.
Obviously, this is a personal choice.
