Default Targa car parking

Kind of a stupid question I guess, but do you guys with a Targa ever leave the car parked in a semi-public location with the top off?

A couple of times I left it parked like that when going for dinner. Clearly I wouldn't do it in Brooklyn or a place like that, but if it's a parking lot of a restaurant in an area where I regularly see big ticket cars parked on the street, I've been thinking that it's ok.

I always do that an never worry about it .. but that was two years ago before prices took off like a rocket.

The way these cars have been getting stolen lately id be a lot more nervous now.

Does anyone know if Wayne over at Pelican got his car back btw ?

I bought an aftermarket stereo with removable faceplate just so I could do this. I never kept anything valuable in the car anyways. That being said, I would never do it if there were any possibility of rain and I don't live in New York, LA or San Francisco.

My only issue is rain... don't want rain in the car with top off.

If someone is determined to steal your car, they're going to steal it regardless.

Most theft is stealing items, so do not leave money/cell phone/laptop, or a pack of condoms in your car or some A**hole will be just as happy to slit your top to steal it.

I had a 1967 Alfa Duetto in Philly (back in the day), and always left the car unlocked at all times... most mornings some D-bag had riffled my glove-box. No problem... I just didn't want my top slashed.

Loose item theft or vandalism is my biggest concern.

I honestly only leave the top off, if I'm at one of my son's games in the burbs and can keep an eye on it from the field. I still lock loose items, such as radar, in the glove box and keep doors locked and windows up. I would especially be weary now, since cars are taking off in pricing.

I guess my biggest concern is vandalism. If I left the car parked on the street without roof for half a day down in most parts of New York I'd come back to a garbage can. Up here where I live now is much more civilized but still makes me wonder.

Always off but then I never leave anything loose, the trunk and glove box are locked, and I only use it on errands where I'm away from the car for short times.

I think older Porsches are less susceptible to vandalism issues than newer ones as the Porsche haters don't get as worked up over a classic (I have no statistics on this but it's a gut feeling).

There was an incident once when a kid ( about 15 ) was with his buddies and he thought it would be cool to throw the rest of his milkshake in my car as he walked by down the street.
what he didn't realize was I was walking down the street the other way right towards him. He was laughing as BMOC until I grabbed him. I had a son about that age at the time so I can kind of underatnd at that age the need to impress your friends.
I didn't hurt him but I tell ya he was filing his underwear by the time I was done with him.

Welcome to mans world kid.

I agree with this . I think there is a lot of respect for the classics across the board.

Generally agree. Here in the UK used to leave the Targa top off everywhere but lately I've been finding stuff thrown in the car garbage style. Mine's no garage queen, but still irritating as hell.

I don't even lock my coupe. I willbe pulling the hardtop off the Boxster in the next day or two. I don't expect it will be locked all summer.
