Porsche Billet Engine Cases
#16
I would make a copy of the 7R case for up to 2.7 size and a hybrid based on the 964 to cover all sizes you need above that. That same base Mezger casing is used all the way up through 2015 in Motorsport, just leave the oil return tube holes blocked and/or removable for earlier oil cooled engines. If you could limit the production cost to just 2 designs you might be able to sell enough to make money, I would resist the urge to make more than that.

Steve this is something we can - and would be interested - in doing. When you have some time drop me an email - martin@willall.com.au - and we can talk a bit. Rennsport Systems certainly looks like they know what they are talking about!!

Martin, I would probably contact Singer Porsche. They build cars with incredible craftsmanship, using new materials with old design, with disregard for matching numbers. They may be able to give you some good ideas as well.

Although the idea appears to be a good one, I cannot think how you could even recoup the investment.
There is no Porsche engine running at this stage that is having issues with case strength. Yes the older mag cases are weak, but those engines do not make a lot of power to warrant a billet case. Those cases become weaker by age not by use.
You have originality to consider in the early years and the later engines have a plentiful supply of good used cases along with new ones.
I understand that a lot of the early parts will soon be available from Porsche in their Classic program coming.
I think you may be better looking at re productions of "hot rod" parts that have no affect on the cars overall value. Cast or billet would not matter. If you do decide to go ahead, I would establish a US landed cost and build to order.
The Porsche market is unlike the Japanese market in just about every way.

Make something like this:
by using 2 of these:
& 1 of these (& a few assorted other parts):
to make a pretty good clone of this:
Bonus points if you can figure out how to make it short enough to fit in the tail of a 911.

Two completely different engines.
The top one is the 908's, 350BHP 3.0 and the bottom one as used in that RS-61 is the Type 771, 210BHP 2.2 litre. Neither one have anything in common with each other besides cylinder count.
The 2.2 litre Type 771 was a nightmare to assemble requiring over 200 hours to rebuild.
The 3.0 litre unit would be far more preferable, however its heavy and requires a complex exhaust system. (We just finished rebuilding three of them).
Not for the faint of wallet.

Yes, we would be building to interest only, its a shame if there is no real requirement in the Porsche market for this kind of case technology as I personally am very fond of the cars
