If there is a driveable 964 or 993 (coupe) for anywhere close to $50k let me know it will be one of the greatest buys currently..but I dont think you will find anything under $60k even higher miles with some work needed on these models...I suggest checking the usual websites and talk to some owners at cars and coffee about their 964 or 993 (coupes) and I think you see what I mean

Road A is a high HP car track really, but I did a track day there with a 160 hp Fiat 500 Abarth and had a blast. I was the second slowest car and got a sore shoulder from how many point bys I gave but still tons of fun.

It turns out a guy I worked with a few years ago is in Porsche Sales at a dealership near me. They did not have any 964 or 993s (duh) but I did drive a 2014 Cayman S with PDK. Pretty awesome car and would be a great daily but still not quite what I'm looking for. I'm still leaning towards the 87' or at least a similar model 964. I'm going to go back and drive the 87' next week. I was given a good OTD price that I think is fair, less than the list price online.

If you're going watercooled try a 996tt. It'll puke in the face of the 14 Cayman S.

Not planning on going water cooled but the wife wants a new car and may trade the BMW in on a Cayman. Any excuse to get a Porsche, right? She does really like the Cayman too, plus I can kill two birds with one stone, old and new.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. I'll keep the 4runner as my daily and have the 87' as my toy and replace the BMW with a Cayman for my wifes everyday car. We spoke about this at dinner tonight.

Not yet, work has been quite busy and been difficult to break away from the office during their hours of operation. With this being my first 911, I'm all over the place so I'm not rushing this purchase. They have a 964 but it's more than I'm willing to spend on it, but I do need to drive it for comparison sake. Plus, I would rather have a white or silver car over red.

I also own an '88 Carrera .... the one in my profile pic in Venetian. It has quite a few less miles on it than the car you are looking at, but you cannot go wrong at the value along with the fact they freshened the valve train.
I will say this:
I am never unhappy driving it. The G50 is wonderful to own and lends itself well to spirited driving over some of the other Porsches I own. It pulls hard right from the gate and always has as long as I have owned it but there IS a noticeably stronger pull.... not much, after the 3700 rpm mark is reached. It repeatedly gets a good pull up to that 5800 rpm range with no issues. It isn't the fastest Porsche I own, but it does make me smile at least as much or more than the others.

This is one of the last of the old handbuilt G bodies out of Stuttgart. And a reason why these were trading in the 15-20 range just a few short years ago, and have now pushed thru up to the value we see today, as people in love with this iconic car see the greatness of this particular model and have driven the market to more than double, even triple what they were bringing.
GREAT 911 to own. One of the most durable and trouble free.

I really do love the old air cooled 911s, always have and when I see one, I just get that feeling inside that that is the car for me..
We'll see, either way, there will be a Porsche in my garage.....soon I hope.

As to the 996, due to the number of issues with the IMS/RMS and the cheaper quality interior in the 996, this would be a pass on my part. I have no issues whatsoever with 997s, especially the later built cars with improved resolutions of the aforementioned seal and bearing. The fit and finish of the 997 is far more superior as well, especially in the interior. The newer the car in these two models (996,997) the better it seems. I have too many friends who have had negative experiences with 996 models, read toooooo many articles about the issues to ever consider one. The only 996 I would ever own would be one with the Mezger designed flat sixes as seen in GT2, GT3, and Turbo cars. jm2c
