windshield disaster
Hi everyone
Just had my windshield installed today , on close inspection I noticed something shiny black around the rubber seal. Turns out they urethaned it in. I also noticed the black metal trim in some places does n't have a tight seal. When I confronted the guy who did the work, His reply was " WHATS THE BIG DEAL WE DO IT LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME". This is a reputable auto glass shop.
Any ideas on what I should do?
Oh yeah, I also picked up 12 inchs of my rubber seal off the floor. The one that goes under the windshield. I know its not a brand new car but its my 84 carrera cab. I'll bet they urethaned this also.Imagine this guy "WHATS THE BIG DEAL" I'll bet its a big deal when I trade up or sell it. It'll be a great spot for my PPI to start.
Wish I knew ? What to do?

Get your $$$$$$ back, they did an improper install and the customer (you) is NOT happy! <img border="0" alt="[grrrrrrr]" title="" src="graemlins/cussing.gif" />
I just had a new windshield installed and they did a great job...I don't believe it is much different from your Cabriolet, but I don't have that pesky "ornamental trim" to deal with either.

Two people in the automotive field that I watch like a hawk when they work on my car. Windshield and stereo installation guys. Though I also watch whoever is about to put my car on a lift. And if they object, I threaten to tear them a new one. At least with a pre-993 911 a windshield will go in without any glue. Not to mention not having to have any trim pieces removed by the process of breaking tabs. I am lucky my Porsche mechanic puts them in for me. The other day I had a windshield changed in my Audi V8 Quattro where the A-pillar trim pieces got cut up and had the attachment points broken. The worst is that these particular pieces are unreplaceable. No loger made in the same color. Again I am faced with the same problem in my wife's mercedes which requires a trim piece to be removed which extends to the rear window. I wonder what they will manage to break. Better yet, I wonder if they will wear the gloves which are a requirement in glued windshield installation. @&*@#$ idiots!

I going to give it my best shot. and I don't need some routine glass shop screwing up my car.. I can do that myself.......Ron

I'm sure you won't like this, but if I were you, I would:
1- Go back and get my $back. If you paid by credit card, you have options..
2-Join, if you aren't already a member, the PCA, and find the better Porsche restorers in your area.
3-Contact a worthy restorer, and either take it to them or obtain the name of the guy who does the work for them.
4 - Get it all redone. This may be $, as you may need new seals, but in the long run it will be cheaper than leaks and rust and...well, you know the rest!
Good luck.
