My car will be sitting mostly in a warehouse. What should I use? Apparently the porsche one that uses the cig lighter is not compatible with the older cars..

I use this Battery Tender with the battery terminal clamps. I put a battery disconnect on and have recently started just using that rather than the tender. Just have to reset the clock, i dont use the radio anyhow so no loss of presets .


I use this one with my 5-series, i have it plugged into the cigarette lighter which is always on regardless of key position.

 

C-Tek is who makes the Porsche tender's and is what I use on my car too. I also sell them if you have any questions.

Get one from CTEK. You can have it wired up and plugged directly into the battery. The factory Porsche chargers are made by CTEK but you avoid the Porsche tax if you buy the CTEK brand :-D I think the CTEK 3300 is good for our cars

 

I use the ctek , I cant remember if it is the 3100 or the 3300 , as I use it for my motorcycle as well. not the one with the cig light adapter for obvious reasons the other one,

 

Bought 2 several years ago-conventional ones with red and black clamps for battery terminal and ground, and they plug in regular electric socket. been using for 2 years on and off seem to work fine, does not interfere with electronics of modern Porches.
Suggest you get the ones that turn off automatically when charging is complete so you dont have to disconnect/reconnect them. The light continues to stay green but there is no overcharging issue.

So you guys have to pop the hood when you plug in the tender?

I used to have the one from porsche with the skinny cable you could plug into the cig lighter and then just shut the door. Can you not do that on these older cars? You have to plug into the battery?

no on the older cars the cig lighter is not wired directly to the battery it is switched, so with ignition off it wont connect to the battery ,

I have backed out out of the garage more than once dragging my maintainer, the ctek has a quick disconnect and with that one when I forget It usually unplugs without damage.

I also use Battery Tender. I keep a permeant connection to the battery and tuck part of the cable under the carpeting. When I use the charger I just connect the cord coming out of the charger to the one directly connected to the battery.

 

Use the tender battery for over a year now, I gave a cut off key and cut off puller cable for track, I sometimes live it for 3 weeks and it has been find. We definatly need a lithium charger I have the Cteck but never had to use it so far ....
I just cut off every time I live the car and lock the doors from inside , it's extra safety anyways .

 

I have had the Deltran tender, plus model. I have the cable permantly mounted to the battery and then easily connect and disconnect it to the tender throughout the winter. Highly recommend it

 

Do you guys leave the hood popped a little for the cable to fit through?

Or have any of you found a creative way to run the cable to the exterior of the car? I've seen guys on the 997 and 996's run the cable up through the plastic cowl at the base of the windshield. There's a little factory cover that pops off and the cable that runs to the battery connects from there.
