This is why everyone with an air-cooled Porsche should have agreed value (not stated value) at this point, and be over-insured. To not have such, is folly.

The other reason to keep the insurance on your car while it's undergoing restoration is that if something bad happens you have an advocate.

The owner's insurance should cover it. Generally, your insurer will pay your damages, and then it is up to them to go after the shop owner for damages. If you have a valuable car, get a declared value policy. Don't assume the shop owner will cover the loss... he can just declare bankruptcy.
