Default getting to know a 911SC PCA race car

Finally got my hands on a SC track car!

It is a 1981 euro SC that started life out as a white street car and then became a G class car with Mantis racing.
Along the way the car won a few PCA races along with multiple targa newfoundland wins and then became a D class car. (soon to become an E car)

I have pulled the car from storage, dusted it off and have been learning with it at Sebring.

Apart from being really old and used, it actually works quite well.
The grip is great and it sounds fantasic. Brakes are also nice.
The build is crude as it is a race car, but it is sufficient given the purpose.

The 915 transmission is actually decent and i have only had a few occassions where i struggled to get it into 2nd while on track.

The car currently runs on 7's and 9's. The 7s are 944 wheels. I believe that makes them offset further out? As to the 9's, would they be 944 or typical 911 size?

944 7 and 911 7 x16 both have ET23.3(as does 911 7x15). So they place the tire in exactly the same place, either may be used on the front o a 911. The 944 wheel has a hub/spoke design that leaves more clearance for bigger brakes.

9x16 ET15 is a 930 wheel, but fits the back of an SC/Carrrera perfectly

the owner mentioned that first set of front wheels were from a 944...
nice to know that they are the same offset!

The 944 wheels allow you to add 930 brakes and stay legit in the class

930 brakes fit in regular old 911 Fuchs too

The wheel to get is a 16 x 8 fuch with the 944 part # will fit on front of car, car looks great enjoy!

ahh, that is what it must be.

the car has a set of wheels that have a 16x8" 944 wheel on the front.

the other set has 911 front wheels that are 16x7"

The car with 8" wide front wheels has such nice grip with Hoosiers!

The car with 8" wide front wheels has such nice grip with Hoosiers!
944 8x16 has the same 23.3ET as the 7, ergo it sits outboard .5" compared to a 7ET23.3.

Some guys have fitted it but it isn't a good fit and not something I would recommend,

here you can see how various whee/tire assembly's fit, different tire on the same wheel may sit differently because even for the same nominal size the measure differently. At the limit and beyond tires can be fitted by utilizing various tricks such as short tires, more negative camber, stiffer suspension and alterations to the lip, shock and inner hardware. Some guys have resorted to hub alteration or replacement.

Is this a DE car or do you plan to do PCA racing? A Euro SC is an E Stock car... a great class to race in, BTW.

I have no idea on brakes, will know once i pull the wheels at the next Sebring event.
The car was legal in G class. So would it have stock or 930 brakes?

I must say, the brakes felt great at Sebring last weekend!

FYI, having 930 brakes will bump you up a class from E.
