My search for my first 911
Hello Everyone,
I am excited to join this forum. I have read posts and replies from many members and have been very impressed with the amazing answers and passion folks show to help other members out.
I am starting my journey to try and find a good Porsche 911. I am focused on the 1984 - 1989 model years and will need your help and expertise. I have purchased the 911 buying guide as well.
I have also read posts on checklists including the PPI checklist that should be followed from this forum.
I wanted to get your thought on a 1987 911 Carrera cabriolet that is on sale at GR auto gallery in Grand Rapids. It has 43K miles and the asking price is 40K. It has a clean carfax history. I have heard many members say be wary of these guys. What do you guys think? Is there someone in the area I can use to have the car inspected as I live in VA? Thanks for any feedback!
Looking forward to the search and talking to you all!!

Maybe good to ask the dealer why a similar car with almost double the mileage is priced $10k more. http://www.grautogallery.com/vehicle...rera-cabriolet
As for PPI do a search for PPI & location here on rennlist. I think GR auto recommend someone local so ask them who and avoid them.

Carfax is far from perfect and I would never base a decision on that information.
A competent & thorough PPI is your best resource about any car you are considering. Find the best shop that really knows those cars to do this critical task.

I used Ben at German Auto Service in Grand Rapids when I was considering a car from GRAuto. He was very good and thorough. Rob from GR didn't recommend him, but was willing to arrange the PPI.

And as Mondrian said, there's got to be a reason why this one is $10k less than another car GRAuto is also selling.
Ask Rob why. I found Rob to be easy to deal with but definitely not forthcoming on issues with the cars he has. Maybe he has too many cars.

Yes, a PPI is a very good idea. Good luck with your search and hope you find something worth picking up soon.
