Value of complete 2.2S MFI engine
Hi all,
I have had this engine in my garage for a while now, and have have changed direction so have no need for it.
It is a type 911/02 engine serial 6301259 with approximately 80,000 original miles, running when removed. It is complete with its original alloy stack MFI and all shrouding, etc--basically as pulled from a car. It has been sitting for probably ten years, so it will need a refresh, I am sure.
My questions are:
Where to list?
It is the lost and found thread on the early 911 S registry (would love for it to go into its original chassis), and was going to consider listing here as well as on Pelican and keep eBay has a back up.
How to list?
Should I sell the engine as a complete unit, or separate the MFI from the engine to sell separately (which seems sacrilegious to me) ?
What's the current market value?
I have been out of the early 911 market for a few years, but am reentering it as I prepare to reassemble my '71T RS clone.
Thanks for your input and wisdom.
Steve

Steve I'd venture to say it's not really worth much in the condition it must be in after sitting for ten odd years ,despite it' s having the complete hella expensive MFI set up.
The third digit depicts the year so '70 S decent out put , high revving 66MM stroke
2200 CC displacement .
So if you'll take what you can get oh say $2500 ok , be by tomorrow to pick up!
In all seriousness it's hard to say what with the values of the complete cars , it's of course
very valuable to the owner of the serial number car it matches, short of finding that vehicle
it's probably a $15-$20 k engine as it sits...to bad you didn't buy my '70 S roller so many years back that you looked at perfect chassis for this, oh well ...Bert

Thanks for the input and offer.
I did ask the question on the early 911S registry, and have received no public response, but did get two offers via p.m. to buy, without a ballpark price mentioned.
Bert, you're the second person who is estimated between $15K and $20K so that's probably A reasonable figure.

First, does it turn over? Is is just tired, or is the case shattered?
A #1 condition, numbers-matching 2.2S is a $220-250K car, so back off $100K of bodywork, and you have $120K of metal. IMHO, a full boat numbers-matching 2.2S engine will require a $15-20K rebuild, but will add $20-40K to the value of the car after resto...
