hydrolock with oil?
some one was telling me that jacking up the front of the car would cause oil to run from cooler and possibly fill crank case with oil. causing hydrolock. ? any truth to this?? thx

I have jacked my car up a the front to do wheel work for over 10 years and never had an issue.
Although I guess it is theoretically possible if you had you oil tank grossly overfilled to start with

thats what i thought.. would seem like a major engineering flaw if the crankcase filled with oil if you parked on a hill. lol.
thx for affirming my thought

Think this out:
First, how do you hydrolock with oil going into a sump? It's not going to ever, in practical terms, get past the rings and into the combustion chamber. Anyway, the dry sump-that-really-isn't on an aircooled can hold 3-4 quarts.
Next, you have a quantity of oil in the tank, which will gravity feed into the case when parked. (Yes, some does make its way past the suction gear of the oil pump, and into the sump. Gamroth has a check valve for those truly interested.)
Now, back to what the oil cooler/line/thermostat may further contribute. You've got a quart, maybe a little more in that whole system. The scavenge side is going to be blocked by the closed thermostat. The other side is draining back into the tank.
