Default Problem shifting into @nd

Hi All,

I recently purchased an 82 911 which the seller informed me had a problem shifting into second. When going into 2nd from 1st or 3rd I need to really push the shift lever back into position and hold it there firmly to make sure it doesn't pop out or grind. This is required 60% of the time; the other 40% of the time it shifts fine. The seller said the car will need a second gear syncro, but could this be a linkage adjustment issue? I plan to turn some wrenches this weekend, but thought I'd ask for some advise before then.

Thanks,
Walter

Check the busings under your shifter and the coupling under the plate on the floor between the rear seats.

There are also more bushings under the shifter. How do you descibe nomal 915 sloppy compared to abnormal? If there is no slop in the shifter then its on to syncro's! If its popping out at times, the wear is pretty bad It may also need syncro teeth and slider hub. don't scimp on parts once its opened, you dont wont to do this twice!
